It made me wonder what another languages could be used... since there could be other wizarding communities around the world, like Cho Chang definitely sound like an Asian (so is there a possible foreign language used?)

You mean where each language has their own dictionary of spells? Nah, I think it's all universal throughout.

Having other incantations in another language would make sense. Historically arabians have a long history of magic & wizardry. In the game OOTP there are paintings of many arabic wizards. You would also think that it would be possilble to have chinese or anold african language of incantations. Hmmm.

Incantations would be in other languages, it's not really what is said that's important but the purpose and resolve behind it.

I think the trick behind spells is to take words from a different language that people in your area don't know or that a lot of people don't know and change the words slightly so they flow better. Then you have a real word with real meaning but it looks like you made it up. JK did and awesome job. I have often tried to come up with other words she could have used and no such luck (at least no good ones LOL).

I think that it depends upon the country and time period when the spell was devised. They just spread like any other thought or object.

Ya, and just like words we use now, some will be more popular and some will come in and go out of style. It just depends on what is "cool".

That may not be true Madame, or it may vary since Spells are spells. You cannot tamper the true source o spells, but with normal words, they're meaningless. Just nothing, but spells can be repeated and never die out.
It is quite odd, considering the amount of spells. Which would've been made first, and by who?
Merlin? In the medieval times? What're your thoughts? :)

All of the spells in Harry Potter are based off of latin. i think it is completly possible that the spells are not based off of latin but that latin might have been based off of the spells. in which case the spells would be the same for every one in the magical world.
