Harry Potter Recipes

Postby DucksRMagical » Wednesday 5 September 2007 8:52:00pm

Has anyone here ever wanted to make the food that is served at Hogwarts and the Burrow? I have! :D Of course, if you live in England, you probably eat it anyway.

I found this site that lists a bunch of recipes for the food. I'm going to try and make some.

I really want to make Treacle Tart, I just have to find Golden Syrup. :-?

Sadly, I can't get to the website. :-( And I really wanted to learn how to make Butterbeer. Oh, well. Root Beer's good enough to hold me over. Wait, is Butterbeer Alcoholic?

Huh, the site seems to have been taken down. I might have printed out the butterbeer recipe. If I find it, I'll type it up and post it. It was quite tasty.

Butterbeer is not really alcoholic. One of the ingredients is rum extract, but you could easily leave it out. I think rum extract has some alcohol in it, but it must not be a lot because you don't have to show ID to buy it in the USA. When we made butterbeer, we bought some, but then forgot to put it in. The butterbeer tasted fine without it. ;)

Well, considering you can buy guns over the counter... that doesn't mean much  ( No discrimination intended :) )

Ohhh, Butterbeer? Wow, sounds yummy. What does it taste like?
Creamy Soda? That's how I would imagine it :D

Actually, in the US, you have to have proper ID and a few other things to purchase a gun. Kids can't buy guns. I personally think it's too easy to get a gun and there needs to be even stricter gun control laws, especially given what happened at Virginia Tech.

But the alcohol laws are pretty strict. I work at a grocery store and we ID everyone, even if they look like they're 100 years old. We even require people show ID for chocolates that are filled with alcohol. But rum extract is not something that ID is necessary for.

Butterbeer is good! It's really rich and creamy. It tastes like creamy apple cider. :D I'll try and find the recipe.

That rum extract is probably like bitters over here. It's a bit of alcohol but you'd have to drink an awful lot to get tipsy. and you'd probably get sick first.

Thanks for that hrocks, I shall google that! I made up Butterbeer for my 27th bday (which was a HP dress up party that totally ROCKED!) but I guessed at it and mixed buttermilk and kola beer together. It was basically like a spider (icecream and soft drink/pop) and it tasted alright but I would LOVE to have the real deal!

hee hee!!!! *runs off to check out the recipes and thinks about throwing another HP party with all the proper recipes....*

I will definitely try at least one of those recipes, if not more. How could I pass it up? I've already saved the website to my favorites.
