But it was nice how the Malfoys finally realised there was more to life than being part of Voldy's gang...

I thinkt they didn't have to realise anything. They'd always been cowards but the family was indeed the most important for them, though they - especially Lucius - didn't show it.
And I like that Rowling didn't try to make them who they're not - in epilog Draco will not make friends with Harry, even though he seved his life.
Malfoys were proud, they gave themselves airs but nothing more - they were poseurs, the only thing they'd really got was so called pure blood. That's all. Beside that they were quite normal and belongings to Death Eaters was in my eyes just pose, because they could show they're someone better. Not everyone could be a Death Eater though

I got to like the malfoys a lot more in this book.
I think that they have always been a close family though. Lucius and narcissa have always adored Draco, I dont think it was something that was realised just at the end.

I've liked Draco from the moment of his hesitation when he lowered his wand by a fraction slightly on the Astronomy Tower.
