Why I Cried
Tick, Tick, Thump
Tick, Tick, Thump.
My heart pounding
Two hours I’ve been waiting.
Listening to the clock winding
Doctor’s and nurses rushing
I had my hands around
Mother’s stomach, thinking,
Father was always so careful.
I never dreamed of a day
When I would cry.
I remember how proud
He was the day I hit a
Home run.
I remember the way that
Father cried when he said,
“Does he have to go to school?”
But I mostly remember
What he did when they took
Him away from the crash.
Through the blazing and blaring sirens,
Through the people that were watching,
He spoke to me,
Not Mother, me,
And said…
“I love you Danny.”
I wrote this last year and this is also the poem I won the poetry contest with. I hope you liked it.
