Live Earth

Postby Paul » Saturday 7 July 2007 4:54:33pm

I didn't even know about this until yesterday but this is great - 2 billion people across the world watching the live Earth concerts and hopefully contributing in some small way to help save the planet and its creatures.

Kasabian were amazing earlier here in England and it was good to see genesis with "Land of Confusion". I'm looking forward to Duran Duran a bit later and maybe the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

It seems KT TUnstall is playing in the USA - really need to find out if she'll be shown here in England or on the web somewhere as I think she's great. The Police are in the USA too - would be perfect if they did one of my favorite tracks ever - Synchronicity Part 2 - "Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes, contestants in a suicidal race".

It's not so much the increasingly chaotic weather that I think of, although that's bad. And it's not so much the rising sea levels although that's already starting to become disastrous.

What really and completely worries me is that in the years to come we could lose precious animals like the Indian Tiger forever...never to be seen alive again...ever. And the polar bear, the albatross and so many other creatures.

A while ago I did a few pages about the Dodo on another of my sites. It made me really sad after investigating this bird that no-one will ever see one alive again. They have been lost completely. I really don't want to see that happen to today's creatures, whether majestic or humble.

Aha - I've found the running order at http://www.liveearth.msn.com/about/factsheet . Looks like KT Tunstall is second in the order in the USA after 2.30 EDT (I think that's 7.30 BST). Any of the countries' concerts can be viewed online at http://entimg.msn.com/i/LiveEarth/landi ... yer/q.html

That is a really cool idea! I don't really like doing endangered animal reports for school because it makes me so sad but I know that it's important to learn about them.
But the Bald Eagle is off the threatened list! :D

I wouldn't be so quick to say that, samples of their DNA still exists and with any luck we'll see cloned dodos and other extinct animals returned to their natural habitats.:-)

That live earth thing sounds really cool but it's ironic that it's sponserd by chevy, a famously environmentally unfriendly compony.

i just found it strange that when they were broadcasting the whole Live Earth concerts on TV and RADIO, they told us to turn those very things off to save energy?!!

thats also true

I just think that the people who organised it didn't really think too much about it. I know that the purpose of it was to make the world aware of the situation and that we all need to save energy by using less power, but surely there could have been another way to do this. How much power did the concerts use putting the shows on? They were all 10 hour concerts and thats A LOT of of power used up. Its just a little ironic that something like this was used to promote awareness about whats happening to the world has just contributed a fair chunk to global warming

I don't know if they actually did this but I'm sure thats it's possible to power those concerts using only renewable energy sources.

anyways thats what u gotta do these days - if u wanna get to ppl about subjects likeou that which are not easy and nice and comfortable to hear - you have to do something like a concert to get people intrested. then if even a very small part of the watchers changes their habits and starts doing less damage - its still worth it. plus it also increases the awarness to these isues and can start a ripple effect and make a bigger change.
