Also, if Pettigrew would have died, he wouldn't have gotten the silver hand in book 4. Now, we all know that silver kills werewolves, so that might mean that if the hand is going to be used to kill Lupin, that would not be able to happen!

Accio, even though LV wouldn't be able to use the mark on Pettigrew's wrist(why haven't James, Lupin and Sirius seen it before PP betrayed them?), he could have 'inhabitated perhaps little animals, as he did in Albania, and go to the Malfoy mansion for instance! That way, there'd still be a loyal death eather to kill Cedric and do all the other stuff.

That's a good point Gecko, he could have just gone and done that. I'm sure that a lot of this could still happen without Wormtail, it just would longer. I mean if he did go to the Malfoy's then he'd still have to go hopping from one animal to another, all the way from Albania to England! That's not a short trip.

Thanks! Yeah it would take him longer, but then he would have a much more powerful aid in helping him get back to power again. Lucius Malfoy has money, is a good wizard, and certainly not a coward like Pettigrew. Let's say I for one am glad that Voldemort used Pettigrew!

What i think...If pettegrew was dead, we would all be happy, and chances of Voldemort comming back would be slim. Pettegrew was the one who helped Voldemort back, and his companion when he was with Frank the Gardener (in the beginning of GoF remember???)

I think if Harry HAD let Lupin and Black kill Pettigrew, he and Lupin would have regretted it afterwards, but Sirius wouldn't because he really hates Pettigrew for betraying Lily and James: after all, James was his best friend in the whole world!

Harry and Lupin probably would have been more happy handing Pettigrew over to the Dementors than killing him, because they'd probably get more pleasure out of seeing the soul sucked out of him by a large hooded creature, even though Harry hates them.

It was probably best that Pettigrew escaped because there would have been more risk of Sirius getting caught if they'd handed Pettigrew over tot he Dementors.

Well, that's what I think anyway!

Uhoh, if Harry hadn't wanted to save Sirius (thus, go back in time), he (Harry) couldn't have saved himself which he had to do, otherwise nothing would make sense!

If Harry didn't go back in time, he never could have been there to see himself across the lake and cast the patronus charm meaning he'd be different in the future...without a soul?! How on earth does that work???? Bring in the time-travel experts!

Dumbledore would have had to make Harry go back--he'd have had to make Harry understand that he had to go back to save himself...I suppose Dumbledore had some insight to know that Harry would need to go back to protect himself? If you really don't want to go through the time-travel headache (don't blame you! ), you could say Harry reluctantly goes back and saves himself, but then refuses to use Buckbeak to save Sirius, so Buckbeak is allowed to fly away free, and Sirius is robbed of his soul by the dementor ordered by Fudge (that is, if Hermione let Harry get away with all of that! ).

That means no Sirius in book 4...no supportive Godfather, no trips to Hogsmeade (without risking getting caught, as Sirius wouldn't have been able to sign Harry's form)...what else would have changed (without getting into book 5!! ) and how complex have I made this?

Paradoxes!!! I love those! I always seem to put those to an end by simply a slow change happening ata a time and to some point something different will happen and THEY ALL DIE!!

Well here's my opinion:
wormtail was killed of course another Death Eater would take his place!
As a matter of a fact I think Mr.Malfoy would've worked for him LOYALLY!!!

I just hoped harry had let them kill pettigrew if it werent for pettigrew voldemort wont come back again coz remember on gof pettigrew was the one who brought voldemort back.

First of all, V wouldn't come back. harry wouldn't be lured into the department of mysteries, so he wouldn't know about the prophesy. the whole plot would be smashed!
