Gosh - I suppose that's winter is it...

The Australian Open Grand Slam of tennis is on to it's 6th day now - that's the closest thing we have to a grand slam and it does say it's the grand slam of Asia/Pacific adn we're included in that region.

Our No. 1 tennis player for women got knocked out in the second round of the qualifying tournament, and good on her... this is her first full year on the WTA tour.

Yeah it really was quite bad. 13 people died in one day just because of the storms. Snow still not arrived in the south yet but it's normally the last week in January that it snows in the South and they are predicting it this week.

Cool about the A1 motor racing coming to Taupo - can you let me know when that is on please. I'd like to watch it especially as I have been there etc! I have only ever managed to catch a few of the A1 races but I think the concept is excellent, just an all out race. I used to love F1 but found it got so dull I gave up on it but then I've always gone through phases of like/dislike with F1 since the Mansell days!

By the way I heard there was a Tsunami warning over the weekend, have they stepped that down yet?

I've been out of the way a bit and I didn't hear anything about it. Rest assured I'm not quite drowning yet!

Mmhmm, the A1GP race was on at the weekend, actually - the feature race and sprint race on Sunday - the podium was the same for both and qualification too - Germany first, France second and New Zealand third.

Hmm. Auckland has won the hosting rights taken off Fiji for the Netball World Champs, and Christchurch is considering whether or not it would be feasible for them to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the last time NZ hosted it being in Auckland 1990.

I think not, but if they can it'd be great...

Yeah it would be good.

An excuse for me to go see my cousins (did you mean 2008? or 2018?) and see the commonwealth games!

The Commonwealth Games were only last year... the next ones are in 2010.

Olympics are 2008.

Yeah it will.

I think I have dancing competitions that weekend- again!

Last time I remember having a 6hr break at the competitions but being stuck at the hall and reading HBP in the dressing rooms...

I was up at a family reunion that weekend and couldn't get the book until a couple of days after.

Been quite good.

Okay, so the New Zealand Cricket team is on a high after getting a clean-sweep victory over Australia in the Chappel-Hadlee Series... so they'll be heading to the World Cup in the West Indies feeling confident.

Weather in UK not bad at the mo. We had snow a few weeks ago and today it's beautiful sunshine - spring is here. I still don't get all these seasons. Sounds like winter has stayed down your way but winter has not been as bad up here.

Hmm, it's very nice weather here today.

What's the world coming to when the rugby season starts in the middle of summer I ask you...? It takes all the attention away from the cricket, our noblest of games.

Both of those sports have their World Cups this year. Brilliant.
