Snape at the house?

Postby carsten » Saturday 8 April 2006 1:21:18pm

DD told Harry about Snape's regrets and we are led to believe, that DD was an old and foolish man trusting him. But maybe it was Snape who saved Harry from the disaster area at Godric's Hollow? This would be a stronger reason to trust Snape.

Think how that would be,... Holding/saving the son of the man who made fun of you all though school  ,... wait! :o I just had a thought. If Snape saved Harry then, he wouldn't have felt guitly in book One, so he wouldn't have saved him in Quituage. ( Sorry, I can't spell  .) So it couldn't have been him, beacause his debt was repayed. Right? :-?

Firstly, iirc, the Death Mark was set above Hogwarts mostly as a trap for DD.

In the first book, Hagrid mentions something about Sirious Black being at the house when Hagrid went to get Harry, but I don't remember who got there first. (If it's even mentioned)

Yep, it was Sirius who found Harry. The night the Potters died, Sirius went to visit Peter Pettigrew, but found his hiding place emtpy. He had a bad feeling, so he wanted to check if James and Lily were alright, and then found out what happened.

Problems:

Hagrid. DD ordered him to get Harry, but the problem is that, even if DD knew about the Potters' whereabouts, there was no way he could have told Hagrid. Pettigrew alone could speak the name of the place. To be honest though, I think that either JKR was a bit careless here, or that the Fidelius Charm expired with James and Lily's death. I mean, just imagine the spell was still working...then, theoritically, they couldn't have told Harry either, and as far as I remember, DD, Hagrid, Sirius, Lupin and Voldemort mentioned Godric's Hollow to Harry. Technically, they shouldn't be able to speak about the Potters' hiding place, right?

Obviously, somebody was there. How did Voldemort get his wand back anyway? After all, the wand (and the fact that LV's and Harry's wands are brothers) became an important plot device in book 4, so somebody must have collected his wand from the ruins. As far as we know, the only people LV met before he was restored to his old body were Pettigrew and Crouch jr, so one of them appears to have had the wand.

Snape. Was NOT in Godric's Hollow the night the Potters died, as Jo has recently posted in the Rumours section of her website.

Avada Kedavra. Does no damage, yet we've seen it do more than just kill twice now: The Potters' house was destroyed when the curse backfired, AND Dumbledore was blasted off the tower when Snape's curse hit him. Coincidence?
