Hogwarts '06 - The Quidditch Cup

Postby Phoenix in the Ashes » Wednesday 26 April 2006 6:13:12am

If I may direct you to the Hogwarts '06 poll in the Great Hall, or in the RPG Discussion Ideas, you will note that here at BaO there is a soon to be released (May 1st) RPG Scenario called Hogwarts '06.

In this each member can create an identity to play a role for a year (2006) at Hogwarts.

And Hogwarts, as you know, is not complete without Quidditch.

Therefore, after the "house teams" are selected and captains chosen, rules will be issued and a series of games played to decide the Quidditch Cup.

I have already devised a House Point system, as well as a solid technique to how we can play "quidditch" RPG style.

If you are interested in playing, you must sign up when the new RPG is created May 1. Houses will be played in the current BaO houses, although a Sorting Feast will take place, all in good fun.

I advise each house to start up their own thread for it (a common room?) RPG style, or perhaps Paul could set up house-only rooms in the RPG area.

Get involved! It'll be good fun... :-)

If it's to be a place where only House members can access (view and post), I think the existing Common Rooms are probably best rather than having a separate set of Common Rooms which could get confusing. A separate set (House Quidditch training rooms or something) would probably only be best If you'd like different set of permissions (for example somewhere that only a particular house can post in but all houses can view). :)

That's not a bad idea at all... We'll have to see how it goes first - quidditch won't start until a little down the track anyway probably.

Alright teams, get ready for the Quidditch Cup!

I'll post up some rules on how it'll be played tomorrow - if you have any suggestions, they're welcome - because obviously it isn't finalised quite yet.

The Rules are Established:

Scenario Rule: Any member on the Hogwarts '06/07 RPG in a playing house can post for their team as a player that isn't 'owned' already.

Game Rules:
One turn = One post.
Shooting: Once in the scoring zone the chaser with the quaffle can choose to shoot it. He/she PMs Q.Araignee with the direction of the shot (left, right or middle).
Keeping: The keeper then PMs Q.Araignee with the direction of the save (left, right or middle).
Scoring: Q.Araignee, as the ref, will then post the score - if the keeper has chosen the correct direction of the shot, it is saved. If not, it is a goal, and the shooting team is awarded ten points.
Seeking: At any point during the match, I (PITA) will announce that the snitch has been sighted on the pitch. From the 5th post after that one, you can If you try to catch it on.
On the 5th post, you will catch it.
6th post, you'll miss.
7th post, you'll catch it.
8th post, you'll miss.
After and including the 5th post, every odd-numbered post you can catch the snitch. If you forget and post on the sixth after it or any even number, you will miss. When the snitch is caught, the seeker's team is awarded 150 points, and the match is ended.
Winning and Losing: The team with the most points at the end of the match wins.

It's on! For the first time in years BaO is home to Quidditch...

It's in the form of an RPG, with the first match currently being played between Gryffindor and Slytherin.

If you want to watch, just go to the Hogwarts 06/07 scenario thread.

Alternatively of course, you can create an RPG character for that scenario, and play along with us, participating in the start of a new era in BaO history! :D

In the future, we could discuss the prospects of doing a non-RPG Quidditch Cup. Unfortunately, some of the houses don't have enough activity.

However, there's nothing to say we have to use houses. My idea is that we could just have 2 teams that play each other on a regular basis, and we can keep a running record. The team with the most wins at the end of the year would win the BaO Quidditch Cup.

But seriously, follow how things are happening in Hogwarts 06/07, and get up to speed! :-)
