this is soooo confusing
i would really want to know what proof snape gave to DD that convinced DD that he is not on the evil side any more
it isnt mentioned in any of the books
i think he is good bcs he was DD spy before Voldemort failed to kill harry but i really wish that he is evil bcs that no one expects but he is not :-?

I really hope JKR comes up with something that makes "whether or not Snape's evil" irrelevant.

Snape being a Slytherin, is always selfish and only cares for what he gets out of life. So I agree when earlier somebody said that Snape is fighting his own war to achieve his own happiness, whatever that might be.

I always thought that the reason Dumbledore trusted Snape so much was because Snape overheard the prophecy given to Dumbledore and passed it onto Snape. Then shortly before Voldemort's downfall Snape came back and plead for redemption because he'd seen the error of his ways.

But otherwise, I think that Snape is just too nearsighted, he only worries about whatever affects him and tries to stay of the side he thinks will reign victorious. That doesn't make him a necessarily evil person, just has a self interest... we all do.

I don't think that is the real reason. I am so surprised sometimes how Harry can be soooo stupid! Who would blieve in that story, there is sth else and i can't wait to hear what. I don't think DD would believe Snape so easily.
Anybody has any theories what snape might have done to make DD believe him?

I believe Snape gave Dumbledore information of Lord Voldemort's plan to kill the child (Harry).

I also agree with Mafalda saying that Snape is fighting his own war to achieve his own happiness. It's been suggested many, many times by people at this forum and at first i wasn't to keen on the idea, but I'm a fan of it right now. It sort of fits.

The only thing is - if you're not on Voldemort's side? Aren't you basically on some level on the side of good?

Not necessarily, a rival for the title of Dark Lord could be evil without being an ally of Voldemort.

I think Snape is not as bad as he seems. He has more things to give us. J.K. named a whole one book after him.

I'm quite liking this part of the theory, that to me makes a lot of sense. I think it says somewhere that he turned "good" as it were just before LV's downfall and I think DD respected him because it gave James and Lily time to go into hiding and for DD to come up with the idea of this love protection (i do believe it was DD that told Lily how to do this). Perhaps this is the repayment of Debt from Snape to James??? :???: :???:

I still don't think that Snape has repayed his dept. I don't know it just seems like it should be a life for a life, you know? :???:

I totally don't think Dumbledore came up with the love protection thing, Snow_Tiger.

I think it was just a personal sacrifice made solely on Lily's part to give up her life to protect her child. I don't think it would have even worked if Dumbledore had suggested it.
Just a spur-of-the-moment decision of a tormented mother.

Aaaand we are back here!
He could be evil but we all know, deep in our brains, that he is good. He might turn out evil (which would be totaly cool), but i don't think so. The only thing we should ask now is what happened to Snape that made him change sides and what did he do/say to make DD believe him. :???:
