Dinas had no idea what he should be doing; he decided to go down to the Quidditch Pitch and watch some of the tryouts.

Rowena took a deep breath, and walked forward from the group. With a smile of grim determination, she mounted her broom and kicked off from the ground hard. The breeze blowing past her ears made her feel much more secure, and with a short harsh laugh she did two swift laps around the pitch- sinking closer to her broom just as Misty had showed her and keeping her eyes open for anything. After she finished the second lap, she landed firmly and dismounted with a feeling of satisfaction- she had done well, even better than in practice, and felt much more comfortable in the air. She smiled in happiness, and rejoined the group.

It had been a good change of the school rules to allow first years to trial for house quidditch teams, Dinas decided.

Besides, he noticed. There seemed to be a lot higher numbers than previous years.

She finished the list of people and then quickely sorted them into their position groups...she talked to the chasers and keepers first...
" Guys, Oi...Stop Talking..." the stopped, Misty kept going.." I want these groups to go pass the quaffle around up there, I need to see your quaffle skills...and then when I say I've seen enough, I want you to get into 2 groups consisting of both keepers and chasers and 1 group go to one goal post...the chasers need to score a goal pasty a keeper to be able to go on to the next Keeper...each chaser gets 3 shots, then its the next one...do you understand???"

They nodded.."Well go on then..."

She walked over to the beaters and seekers...
"Now guys, You're not going to be using real bludgers yet, at the moment you'll be using a muggle cricket ball and bat...now I want the beaters in a line and also the seekers, what you're going to do is each beater is going to hit the ball as far as possible and the the seeker is going to race to fetch it...then you go to the next pair..."

"Got it??" she asked..."Alright, well up you get.."

Dinas found it cruely entertaining, watching some of the lesser-experience trialists try to pull off professional moves.

Rowena moved into position in the Seeker line opposite another first-year who she had asked to be partners with- but she was trying for Beater. They grinned at each other and waited for their turn.

Dinas saw the lot of them assembling in lines; he wondered what they were going to do.

Misty flew up to watch the first group of Keeper's and Chasers...they all seemed competetent with their Quaffle skills...this is going to be a hard choice she thought...taking a couple of notes on certain people...

She decided to move onto the second group, she flew with great speed to the other side of the pitch...she nodded as she watched this group hopefulls...taking more notes she told them they could start scoring goals now...she flew to the other side fo the pitch and told them the same...

Misty then flew to the beaters and seekers, and watched...

Ah, Dinas saw what they were doing now.

He wondered if Misty would have a fly.

They were good, she nodded in happiness...

She wondered how Rowena would go...

She watched the Beater's every move, every twitch, every smile. Suddenly, she hit the cricket ball with all her might. Like a shot, Rowena pushed off from the ground and sped after it- arm outstretched. And just as suddenly, she felt the ball in her grasp and turned around sharply, hand in the air.

Well, that was interesting, she thought to herself with a smile as she handed the ball back to Misty. She felt a warm glow inside at the thought that she might actually be good enough at this to make the House Team.

At last the groups had finished...Rowena was the best out of the Seekers...Misty put a mark next to her name...but the beaters...there was only one place to fill...Michael the one she had told to come with the beaters was good...he would be an excellent addition to the quidditch team...

She wrote on the second bit of paper Michael and Rowena with their positions next to the names...and also wrote down the names Emily and Henry as back-up's...

"Thanks guys...you can have a little break and then I want you to do some Quaffle handling skills while I check out the others..."

The nodded and headed off the pitch...Misty flew up and went to see the Keeper's and Chasers on the far end of the pitch...

Once they had gone through the entire group there were only 3 outstanding chasers and 1 outstanding Keeper, she marked next to their names...and flew to the next group...this group wasn't very good except for one girl who was trialing for Keeper...Kimberly, Misty nodded and smiled she would do...and wrote her name on the second paper...she also wrote the names of the 2 chasers she saw, Jake and Charlie..also she wrote on the paper the back-up chaser from the first group and the back-up Keeper from the first group...

She called everyone back to the gear....it was time to name the team...she took a breath and hoped she had made the right decision...

Clearly the Rowena girl was the best seeker trialing. Dinas was surprised that Misty had failed to put her through more extensive basic work though - she lacked a few of the more basic nuances of the game, though she undoubtedly had the talent to play for Gryffindor.

The Gryffindors had always held closed tryouts. . . well... there wasn't any rule about not being able to enter the tryouts if you weren't of the Gryffindor house, but the biggest players on the team stopped you if you looked suspicous. Remmy had been in the stadium before the Gryffindors arrived, watching over the field she had once dreamed of playing on. Now that it was a reality, in all honesty, she didn't fancy being confined to such a juvenille quarters. Her seeking abilities were above average and she hoped that one day a por team would see her and pick her up. Thankfully, scouts were always hiding in the games.

As the Gryffindors filed in, no one said a word to her. No one really noticed her...

Remmy sat by and watched her competition. There was a lot of talent in the bunch, and you could tell who had been there before. The new beater wasn't the best, but for a fourth year who had never tried out before, he had some skills.

The girl they picked for seeker, Rowena, was a little shaky to start with. You could see the weakness in her turns, but only if you were an experienced player, and actually analyzing her flying ability, not just watching for flaws. It was clear that Rowena did not see this in herself, and neither did Misty.

The quaffle handling was ok, but it's hard to find good chasers. Needless to say, the Gryffindors were apparently lowering their standards a bit.

The keepers did very well, but in Remmy's mind, just one stood out. Luckily, it wasn't the one that Misty picked. Misty's qualifications for team captain were basically her prefect status and popular girl clique.

She chose not on talent, but on who was best for the team's image. Instead of picking the hopefuls that really had something, just as long as they worked with it... Misty chose the people who were 'ok', and would only amount to 'ok'.

The exception to this was Rowena. But a careful examination of the new seeker's abilities would allow for her strengths and weaknesses to show. The gryffindors had two games before they played Ravenclaw, so careful watch was a definite possibility.

Remmy stayed in the stadium until everyone had left but the team. Practice for the Gryffindors was about to begin, but it was open field, so no one could kick her out as long as she didn't interfere with the players.

She wondered to herself what Dinas thought of the new team. HE had been watching intently for a good while.
