Snape's 2 Year Interview????

Postby Aberforth » Saturday 8 July 2006 1:59:57am

I have been rfe-reading OotP (yet again) and noticed that Trelawney started working at Hogwarts (nearly) 16 years previously (ch 15), but Snape only had taught for 14 years. This seems a little strange when Snape was eavesdropping when trelawny had her interview and gave the now infamous prophecy because he was also about to be interviewed.

Why is it that there is at least 1 year, possibly 2 between the times when Snape was up for interview and when he was appointed potions master? i know he was after the dada job, but we've had no explanation as yet about the time difference. Does anyone think there is a real reason for this or just a mistake?

PS. Aberforth better hurry up and make his appearance soon - he's running out of books to appear in........

Was he interviewed then? Or was he merely spying on Dumbledore?

He wasn't there for an inteview, at least not according to Dumbledore. That's only what Trelawney assumes, since he obviously got a job in Hogwarts later on.

But you're right, there's most definitely something fishy about that scene. For instance, why does Trelawney remember Snape when he was indeed thrown out before her trance was over? Why doesn't Dumbledore's memory show the interruption? Any why on earth did DD let Snape escape, if he was known for his love of the Dark Arts and the prophecy just announced the one way to defeat the Dark Lord? Fishy, indeed.

well let me say what youre saying but not saying -
did dd allow snape to hear the prophecy/to leave after he heard the it and then "edited" his memory so that it wouldnt show it? - if slughorn could do it, dd probably could have done it and much better...
im not saying dd is evil or soming like that (theres a different thread for that, *cough* the conspiracy*cough*) but maybe he thought that it has to happen - snape has to tell vold about the prophecy in order for it to come true, and other wise no one will be able to stop vold or at least it would take much more time...
i wouldnt neccesarily put it past him to do that i mean i know its terrible to send vold at harrys parents but maybe he didnt know that vold would be able to get to them - and thought he would -mark him as his equal- in some other way... or maybe he just thought - to stop vold we must do whatever it takes... no i dunno not too much like dd that thought but maybe desperate times call for desperate means...
anyways can you give refrences both to ootp and to hbp id like to look at it again...
