Hogwarts '06/7

A home for old scenarios who may have come to an end for RPG playing but whose life and excitement can still be enjoyed in story form.

After a very basic and boring transfiguration lesson, Remmy hoped for something a tad more exciting in her next class. She made her way through the hallways, avoiding chattering girls as well as smooching couples.

Ugh. Romance. What a trip she thought as she passed another reunited couple.

Charms, charms. Never was a better subject. I wonder how the new teacher'll be... I'm just glad Dinas changed subjects...

She entered the classroom to find an empty teacher's desk.

Am I early for once?

She took her seat in the front of the room and waited impatiently for the new teacher to arrive.

Behind her, the door swung open, and a man in a black cape walked in.
He didnt seem to notice her at first...

'Hello.' Began Remmy, 'Are you our new teach--'

Remmy's voice faded away as the man removed his hood and his identity became clear.

'Pr-Pr-Professor Dinas? But I thought you...'

She gathered her things and moved to the back of the class, shocked and dismayed.

As the rest of the class began to arrive, Remmy waited in horror for the lesson to begin.

---

She set her book on her table and, as instructed, turned to page 322.

"Now, class... today, as you can see, we will be studying basic defensive charms against possible predators. Advanced magic is extremely hard to counteract, so when one casts a defensive spell, it's better to be safe than sorry.

"Now, Remmy..." he continued, pointing the the dark, black area at the back of the room. "Can you tell me the precise ratio of syllables in the spell, to wand swishes?"

Professor Dinas didn't have anything in particular against Remmy... - she just always got everything correct. In fact, if he was going to admit it...

No, I will not admit it.

Well, Terrin just waited for Remmy's answer which would, without fail, be correct.

Remmy looked up from her book, armed and ready. She had spent her summer in the library studying.

This particular spell wasn't in the book, but was undeed in the curriculum.

She stood and began to recite the meat of her reading.

'Yes, I can sir. Most people would say that the ratio of syllables to swishes is 3:1, but this is simply the minimum for the spell to sctually work. The ratio can vary anywhere from 3.0 syllables per swish to 4.25 syllables per swish. The power for the spell usually maxes out at 4.002:1, and has only be perfected by the greatest wizards and witches. The power steadily declines anywhere above or below that point, reaching its minimum power at 3.0:1 and 4.25:1'

She confidently took her seat and looked hopefully to Professor Dinas.

'Yes, yes. Are you prepared to demonstarte this to the class?'

Remmy smiled.

'Yes sir.'

She walked to the front of the classroom, where a dueling area had previously been arranged.

Professor Dinas stepped onto one end of the mat, and Remmy did the same to the opposite.

As Misty was heading to HIstory of Magic, a younger student ran right into her, she mumbled an apology and ran off...

Misty continued her conversation with Johnathon, still looking at the girl who had ran off...she seems a bit nervous Lee-lee thought...

She walked into History of Magic and took a seat near the back at the classroom on the right, this was where she had sat ever since 1st year...

Since she was still the first to class, and there was no teacher in the classroom, Rowena just stood outside to catch her breath and sort out her stuff. All her History of Magic notes were mixed up, and one of her bottles of ink had smashed- but it had missed everything, luckily.

Looking around, she saw a few fellow Gryffindors in her year coming up the corridor- they noticed her, and started whispering and smirking. Ignoring them, Rowena strightened her robes and her hair- as much as he could- and stayed where she was.

Ten minutes later, the whole class- a mixture of Gryffindors and Slytherins- was standing outside the classroom. Most of them were chatting loudly- Rowena was humming randomly to herself. Suddenly, she turned towards the door as she heard it creak open.

Binns went on and on and on, about some Goblin Revolution in 1895, but Misty wasn't paying attention, no one was...people were throwing paper notes across the classroom, spitting spit balls at the walls like a a class of 6-7 year old kids...Misty instead was doodling pictures on a ripped bit of parchment...she drew a unicorn, hippogriff and a giant, then gave up and drew stars and hearts around the page and enhanced them to wizz around the paper...

She laughed as the giant trod on the hippogriff and the hippogriff ran into the unicorn who starting making noises at the hippogriff...it was all quite amusing.

Something hit her back...it was a piece of paper, she picked it off the ground where it had fell...and opened it..

Dinas twiddled his quill in his hand after the new bell in the North Tower clanged for the hour to end.

It was a note from a Slytherin prefect,Matt, it read:
Hey Misty, have you thought anymore about a masquerade ball this year? I remember someone bringing it up at the last prefects meating, and since your Head Girl, I thought that maybe, you could ask about it??? What do you think??? Love Matt.

She scribbled back, Hey Matt, I was thinking over the holidays and thought it might be a good idea, so I'll talk to some of the teachers and the Headmaster and get back to you, ok??

She chucked him the piece of paper back, and smiled...then asked Johnathon what he thought on the matter...

After the bell dismissed the class, Remmy gathered her things and headed for the exit.

She had a study hall next bell, for she had taken extra classes last semester and was alreaqdy ahead of most people a year ahead of her.

She made her way to the library and removed the book her mother had given her before she left for Hogwarts.

'Dracula!' she thought, 'The muggle version. Too bad they got the story all wrong. I kind of feel sorry for the real vampires. They aren't anything like the stories.'

Her eyes fell on the pages and she was immediately engulfed in the world of muggle imagination.

The bell rang what seemed like 100 years later, and Misty was finally free from History or Magic, she headed straight to the Great Hall for lunch...

"Matt!" Dinas snapped. "What's that you're writing in my class?"

"A note, sir."

"Let's see it then," Terrin summoned the piece of parchment over to his desk and had a quick read.

So, he thought. A Masquerade Ball... perfect cover for anything... irregular, that might come up.

He handed back the Slytherin prefect his note, and set out teacher the class.

He would spend a few minutes at his pensieve tonight.

Defense Against the Dark Arts had been fun- the professor was a little bit...peculiar though. As she ran down the stairs to get some lunch, Rowena looked ahead to her final lesson of the day- Charms.

Lunch was very nice...one of the nicest she'd had since first year...Misty checked her timetable...runnging her finger down Monday's column stopping on the slot after Lunch...Care of Magical Creatures...that might be quite interesting...she gathered her things and walked towards 'The Hutt' which had been nicknamed that ever since Hagrid retired...

Professor Terrin Dinas glanced down the roll. There was the usual sort of names... an O'Finnigan, a Jackson etc.

Rowena, he thought. Interesting.

"Rowena!" he snapped. Obviously, the girl that was Rowena's head snapped up immediately.

Terrin looked around for something to accuse her of doing... he couldn't find anything.

Rowena looked at her Charms teacher bewilderedly- what had she done?

Professor Dinas had just snapped at her, but she had no idea why- they were practising the Levitation Charm, and Rowena had managed to cast it, but why should she be shouted at for doing her work?

Still unsure, she decided just to look directly into the teacher's eyes and say "Yes, sir?"
