That's a plausible theory as well, but what would one gain from destroying the house and giving Harry up (the boy that survived and destroyed Voldemort) to Dumbledore?

I don't know. Maybe they were trying to hide LV's body, or maybe they were really angry with what had just happened?

Perhaps, I'm living in too much of a realism, but the amount of time it would take to respond to the death mark (if there had been one) and getting Harry out of the destroyed house, would be at least hours.

You are too realistic :) Wizards can Aparate. One seconde you're here, the next near Harry's destroyed house. And you could also do some magic to stop the house falling. And even if you don't get there in time. You could still save the boy. Phisical wounds don't really seem to bother wizards that much.

??? don't think dd would have known - james and lillys whereabouts was protected by a secret keeper - PP. I don't think dd would have known where they lived, no one would have known except PP.

I don't think it's that people don't know. It's just that they just can't tell anyone. It's like the parchment and DD being secret keeper for the Order.

Otherwise how could they know where to find and pick up Harry? Hagird, that is.

They knew where they lived, they just couldn't tell anyone, the spell wouldn't let them.

He could cast the mark to attract DD's attention and could save Harry as well. But he probably had another task, so he was to wait for Hagrid to take Harry.

James and Lily fought, there would have been hexes and curses flying about the place like the Weasley twins' fireworks. Spells that miss can cause damage to their surroundings, like in the ministry when the fountain got trashed. I think AK was designed to kill a human without damage but I don't think think its effects on its potential surroundings were ever taken into consideration. It's a subtle weapon as a hitman's weapon but loses that subtlety in a dragged-out fight.

I was thinking of something along those lines. It would make a lot of sense. Unless as others have pointed out, perhaps the Death Eaters were there to watch Voldemort kill the boy?

Nah, I don't reckon the DE's were there for several reasons:

1) Wormtail, being secret keeper, would have to have told them all individually.

2) Voldemort was on the rise, but still cautious. A large crowd at the scene of a kill would've drawn unnecessary attention.

3) Voldemort's a loner, he uses people for stuff he can't do himself, and he would've had no problems assassinating an infant. Or so he thought...

4) He was planning on forging a horcrux, he wouldn't want the DE's knowing about those.

5) Harry was a potential threat in some distant future that Voldemort was dealing with before he could grow up, a'la Terminator. Harry wasn't the continual thorn-in-the-side that he is now.

6) In GoF Voldemort had been a weird little thing for ages but was back on the rise, he was reunited with his death eaters. Ego would have played a role. Voldemort has the ego of a dictator, and that ego would've taken a pounding the past 14 years. He would have wanted to celebrate by dispatching an opponent in a fashion both spectacular and entertaining. - None of this stuff would have applied when he went to Godric's Hollow.

I'm just re-reading the six books, now that my first semester is over. I've just came across this, in the first pages of the book. Dumbledore ordered Hagrid to take baby Harry out of the ruins of Godric's Hollow, but Dumbledore was surprised to find McGonagall at Privet Drive.

Who told McGonagall to watch the Dursley's, if it had not been Dumbledore, was it of her own accord or was it someone else?

Maybe it's as simple as Dumbledore told McGonagall where he was going, but wasn't expecting her to show up. Or maybe she just twigged where Harry was going and saw fit to see him off, there's no rule that says only Dumbledore can be shrewd about what people are up to.

Well, since i cant find the thread i was looking for exactly, somehting along the lines of "somoen else was there HUGE" ors oemthing like that.

As best as i can recall somehow people theorized froma statement by JKR . when asked whether or not anyone else was in the house there was a "no comment " responce from her.

Now, the charm used on Harry was at its strongest when family was around if i recall correctly. Cureently i am rereading book 5, as i do not recall the book fully. Now, to get to the point.

When Harry is about to get kicked out of the house a howler appears, saying "Remember My last, Petunia" which (as i cannot recall anything else on the subject) I believe is somehtign left from Lily, perhaps a little jinx on Petunia, or the house itself. Now then, i believe the last isnt exactly like the last of my bloodline, but rather, remember my last words. Which likely were to take care of Harry. Thios would explain why the magic was strong enough to defeat Voldie, and would explain this letter.

If any of the things stated are proven false and i cannot recall, please respond to it.
