Something of Ravenclaw?

Postby SunsetG|rl » Monday 21 November 2005 1:14:44pm

The topic about Lily being related to Slytherin has been quite popular... But talking to a friend of mine made me think she might be connected to Ravenclaw.

Connected in this sense: my friend had this theory that the last horcrux might just be Lily's wand which in fact is none other than Rowena Ravenclaw's wand. He based his theory on the following statements from JKR's interviews:
(It might not be that accurate what she said cause I' not searching them right now):

"Something big, and I mean BIG will come out about Lily Potter, in the seventh book"
"in the seventh book, we will find out why Harry's mother was so good at charms" (like charms is the thing of ravenclaw...right?)

So what do you guys think?

I'm not sure about this one? I've always assumed that Lily wasn't that important to LV and that's why he gave her a chance to live. If Lily was important in that sense then I think we would know. But I am curious to know what it was that JKR believes is BIG. I've read that as well but just can't think what it might be.

Just posted this in the Horcrux counting thread, but then saw this topic:

So what you're saying is that:

1. Ravenclaw was renown for charmwork
2. Lily is good at charms and very clever witch (hence her charm on Harry to protect him)
3. Lily somehow gains or is given the wand of Rowena Ravenclaw
4. Voldemort goes after Harry but is somewhat afraid of Lily's charmwork and the power of this 'famous' wand
5. Voldemort kills Lily and uses the death to make a Horcrux in her wand
6. Then Voldemort tries to kill Harry etc. etc.
7. After this happens Dumbledore (or some other character, maybe Hagrid) goes back to Godric's Hollow and finds the wand and sells it (on behalf of Harry) for an excellent price to a collector (aka Ollivander).
8. This huge sum of money is placed in Harry's bank account and the wand is kept in Ollivander's shop ("A single wand lay on a faded purple cushion in the dusty window", pp.63, PS/SS)
9. Voldemort returns and wants his horcrux back and also a better understanding of his and Harry's wand and thus takes Ollivander and the wand.

Very interesting.....

I doubt he would sell something as important as this... And plus I think his family might had had those money... I'm kinda remembering that line in the movie (I gotta check the book :) ) "Didn't think your parents would leave you with nothing, did you?" It was something like this that Hagrid told Harry at Gringots...

And Dumbledore would have for sure kept the wand... I don't see him having a greater interest in money than in an old wand (an original Ravenclaw wand). Or maybe do you think Harry will find it still there, at his parents house, when he goes in search of the horcruxes?

First of all, Lily's bloodline doesn't dictate who she is. She could be Ravenclaw's ancestor, but be in Gryffindor. Also, Ollivander remembers specifically selling Lily a wand, not Rowena.

Maybe she just had a knack for charmwork, in the same way that Neville has a knack for herbology and the twins have a knack for dynamite.

If she features important in the seventh book then it'll be through some act of legacy. Maybe she put some mojo on Voldemort to make him an easy kill for her heir. Or maybe she kept something of value at the house, something which would be a weapon in Harry's hands. Perhaps in a locked box Harry finds instructions for some horcrux-busting charm.

She had a knack for charmwork alright...That's how she managed to put that protecting love charm on Harry to make him untoucheble by Lord Voldemort's curse.
As for Lily leaving clues on horcruxes. I somehow doubt she knew. Unless she did knew and she did knew how to destroy them and that is why Lord Voldemort came after her...Good ideea, Chimera!

I'm not sure about Lily leaving some specific info about destroying horcruxes. I think if she knew then she would have told DD (unless of course she only found out minutes before her death) and then he would have been on the case a lot earlier. But I have just had another theory from this though - look in the post called godrics Hollow what will Harry find? My theory isn't appropriate here.

Lily was muggleborn who bought her wand when she was 10. She just had a nack for charmwork. She was magiking flowers and more before she even knew she was a witch let alone wen to Hogwarts. Fun theory though!

I think JK meant Lily's relationship concerning Snape. Just because someone is good at charms, doesn't mean that they're related to someone in Ravenclaw. Hermione is good at charms, and is very smart, yet she wound up in Gryffindor. And the wands seem to have specialties, too. Some are good at charms, others at hexes, etc.
