I'm thinking about Tom's award for special services to the school at the moment. It's a shield and is at Hogwarts at the moment.

I'm sorry i haven't had time to read all posts on this thread, but i have a question (if it's already been answered please tell me where):

didn't dumbledore say voldemort was supposed to do another horcrux the night he tried to kill harry?

if so... hasn't he only done 5 horcruxes (+ his own body-dwelling soul??)

so, if 3 have been destroyed... aren't there only 2 left?

i may be confused... but i'm pretty sure i've read that :$

Hi Bextra - I've been reading all the books again and I've just got to that bit in HBP - I think I read HBP a little too fast last time!

Here we go:

1. The bit of soul that's in LV at the moment - this will be the last thing to be destroyed
2. diary - destroyed
3. ring - destroyed
4. locket
5. hufflepuff cup
6. Nagini
7. Something of Gryffindor or Ravenclaw

DD said that the only known relic of Gryff was the sword (although we know the sorting hat was his as well) so LV might have gone after something of Ravenclaw's.

Also the night that Harry's parents were killed, DD said that he thought LV was attempting to create his last (the sixth) horcrux with Harry's death. He failed to kill Harry and failed to create the horcrux as a result. I think he would not have used James and Lily's deaths to create a horcrux as they were not as significant to him and at the point of their deaths he had no doubt in his mind that he would fail to kill Harry as he had not heard the entire prophecy.

DD said that because he failed to use Harry's death to create a horcrux he could have used Nagini afterwards. I think this is true as we know he had Nagini at the time of Bertha Jorkins death and the old Riddle gardener (can't remember remember his name now).

Incidentally, does anyone think that LV might have hidden a horcrux in the Room of Requirement? In HBP Harry needed a place to hide his Potions book, and found all sorts of unusual items in the room of requirement...

The only other places I can think there might be hidden horcruxes are the Orphanage and maybe at the Riddle House?

What about when Voldemort was talking with Dumbledore, asking for a teaching job. His hand reached for his wand in his pocket for a second. Maybe he just made his last horcrux (Gryffindor's sword). Maybe he had killed someone just before...

Hi Asphodel.

I don't think he could have created a horcrux when he was in DD's office as you have to kill someone and cast a spell at the same time.

Now I'm thinking on it and seeing as I've just read HBP again I am now more and more convinced that LV hid one of his horcruxes in the room of requirement...here's my theory.

LV used to work in Borgin and Burkes where there was the other vanishing cabinet. The vanishing cabinet in the room of requirement was broken for years until Draco fixed it.

Draco fixed it and there was a passageway between the two. That means Tom Riddle could have been using that passageway for the whole time he was working at Borgin and Burkes. We know it had been broken for ages but LV could have done that deliberately. At the time he was working for Borgin and Burkes he acquired the Hufflepuff cup so he could have hidden it in the Room of Requirement which is already protected by enchantments - and Hogwarts we know is a place which LV/TR regarded highly as it felt like home to him.

The thing I find curious is that JKR mentions a heavily blood stained axe in the paragraph when Harry is looking around the room for a place to hide his potions book. Why does she mention the axe? What significance does it have. Is it the axe that was used to take out Nearly Headless Nick. This would be something that kind of related to Gryffindor...

Any thoughts anyone? Or am I just being a lunatic!!

omg wow snowy...that is such a good theory, i dunno if it will be true but its such a good idea!!

just a thought surely the sword can't be a horcrux as harry kind of got it in CoS, or was it already at hogwarts before that??

I like your idea snowy. The thing I'm thinking is J.K.R never puts in an uneeded detail. A normal author would have just said that for the scene, J.K.R wouldn't.

I wouldn't say never. Never say never. There's actually quite a lot of trash if you go around looking for it. Just little scenes in the early books and so on.
But mostly this is because her editors cut them out.
Have any of you seen the poem behind Nearly-Headless Nick's execution that's on JKRs website?

What'd you think of it.I thought it was quite witty really, a real shame it got cut...
Anyway, back to the topic. I personally don't think it's in the axe, but it's an idea.
Possibly it could be in Voldemort's wand. That would be a place very few could get to.

Yeah...that could be a possibility, and like you said no one would actually be able to get to his wand...

Hi Barny

Sorry, think people thought you were me for the minute. I like your theory! Excellent. I think I'll have to go and read HBP again now!

By the way, when are you going to be able to join Gryffindor and be part of the Gryffindor Messenger service - I need to get that back up and running!! We'll have to get Dawn the Tawny signed up soon too!!

Hello mate! No worries all! (Snow's a friend of mine!!) Don't know it doesn't look like I can get sorted yet. How many posts do I need?

I'm glad people think that the theory might be plausable. I'm not sure about the axe I just feel like there might be something in it. It seemed like an odd thing to say at that time in the book and kind of came out of the blue in and amongst all these objects he saw in the room.

I didn't really read that bit of the book properly the first time round as we hadn't heard much about the horcruxes at that point I don't think.

BTW - crystallised_pineapple - yeah I agree I don't think the sword is a horcrux although I reckon LV would have liked it as one. What I meant was (but it didn't come out at all right!) was that DD said the only known relic of Gryff was safe in his office.

Think you need 25 posts and Paul will do this for you.

By the way, I read that passage again about the room of requirement and that blood stained axe do seem a little more significant than I thought before. She ends the paragraph with it which is odd as it makes it stand out. Maybe I read a little too much into that?

Well the bit of soul he has now shouldn't it be like the second one? He split his soul in seven... One bit died when he got killed by Harry. So this right now, would be no 2? Or he had 7 horcruxes? But that would make his soul split in 8.. And 7 was supposed to be the magic number.

I'm kinda really confused by this whole horcrux thing :???:
