Maybe, but I can't see at the moment how we would find that out as we only know of bella and narcissa being alive from the black family, so don't know who else would have that information. It may be part of the backstory.

Of course, if regulus is alive......

The only other person who might know (who I'm not sure is still alive is Tonks mum) is Andromeda Tonks. I bet there probably isn't a connection at all but I couldn't help but wonder why JKR was mentioning snake stuff in what seemed like an odd place.

If you get R.A.B and draw a line through the middle(providing the cross of the 'A' is towards the top it turns int DAD! it could be from James or Tom Riddle

I am pretty sure it is Regulus. As for the middle intitial, "a" is a common first letter of the middle name of a person in an ancient English family.

I'm not sure if this has been said, because I can't be bothered to read all the pages of this section, but I've been reading the 5th book again and didn't it say on page 116 or something, that they found a locket that couldn't be opened while cleaning? And maybe the guy that stole it put it in the house because it was unplottable or something?

Hi Bextra

Yeah this has definitely been said a number of times in this thread but I don't blame you for nto reading it all - it is very long now.

The general consensus is that RAB is Regulas especially as JKR said we would guess and they've added his middle name on the HP Lexicon site and the locket is the one they found at Grimauld Place.

The circumstances of how it got there though....

Was Regulas the one who was charged to place it there or did he steal it after it had been hidden? Did he swap the potions? Who knows?..yeah ok JKR!

Perhaps he fooled the cauldron, so it just refilled itself. Or maybe, despite what Dumbledore told us, Voldemort knew his horcrux was stolen. Maybe the horcrux J.K.R says we'll find is the locket. Maybe it's still out there.

Yeah I'm still wondering about the locket at the moment. Personally I am in no doubt that it is the one at Grimmauld Place but whether it is still there is another matter.

Kreacher might have stored it somewhere or perhaps Mundungus stole it...Hmm could JKR be that cruel to us to have Mundungus steal it? I feel not and that she's got a lot to cover in the final book. So I reckon that Kreacher will have stored it in his cubby hole at Grimmauld Place.

I think it would be quite funny in a way, if Harry started to look for the other horcruxes and actually the locket is the one he finds last say if Hermione were to suddenly realise. She has a great memory for that sort of stuff doesn't she.

I am totally convinced that the locket is the horcrux, the style of JKR's writing, and how she plots things in the books makes the theory very believable.

As for R.A.B. as the conversation seems to be getting away from him slightly, again what is the need for JK to mention that Regulas died 15 years prior if it is not in some way relevant to the stories progress? i like this theory, and believe that JK is slotting minor parts of information, as she has done, through the series that you can look back on and say 'oh yeah'.

I've not managed to get through all 11 pages so this might have already been said. What if the locket is like the CoS - ie it can only be opened by the heir? I mean it's irrelevant to the horcrux side of things cos it can probably be destroyed whether open or shut. Still though, it'd explain why the locket is unopenable.

Inspired Chimera!

I've been in this thread since near enough the beginning and I never thought about that. I'm not sure though as otherwise you would think that the ring could not be worn by anyone other than a Slyth heir. DD managed it but maybe that's why his responses were slow!

Good thinking!

Maybe. Maybe putting it on contributed to Dumbledore's dodgy hand.

Yeah I think you're right. He wasn't a true wearer of the ring if that makes sense. And another thought, maybe to destroy the locket, Harry has to wear that too? (maybe someone who has a full soul and pure can only destroy horcruxes)
