Minesweeper

Postby SunsetG|rl » Monday 22 August 2005 8:32:27pm

I just read that JKR is playing minesweeper
and i think she must be really great at it. i mean 99 seconds on the expert level that is something. :o (if you play minesweeper you know what i'm talking about). my record is just 168 seconds. which might be just because i have a bad mouse. :(

Bah! I'd rather she be writing the last book than becoming an expert at Minesweeper. Get your priorities straight, woman!

As if the person writing these books couldn't be slightly insane.

Luna would just seem more normal if she got much worse.

And still, there's a difference in silently playing minesweeper while you think and publicizing the fact that you do it. She should have kept that bit to herself.

How come? Everyone's entitled to a bit of fun now and then.

As for her priorities at the moment; she's taking a year off writing anyway, so that she can spend time with her new baby.

The way I see it, delaying the book by 5mins for mineweeper causes 5mins of suffering to a few million people, and only fun for one (JK herself)
This means she therefore isn't allowed to have fun until the book is finished, for the greater good.

you're realy taking this too serious...
gees...she's just human...she's not your dedicated slave to work around the clock on the books. you should just learn to wait. you can't go through life without patience. you'll never get anything you want at a snap of your fingers. and i don't think that 5 minutes is that much suffering. there are worse things in the world.
and no matter how much you complain i doubt she is going to stop playing minesweeper... and i made the topic just because i though it was great of her to set a record.
but aparentlly i might just be lonley thinking there's more to life than harry potter. the books are great...but they don't make a life.

I agree. It is pretty cool.

And when you think about it, at the end of they day, they are JKR's stories. She writes them for herself, and millions of other people enjoy them too. She's under no moral obligation to continue writing them, and could stop at anytime she feels like. She doesn't owe me anything.

What do you think would happen if she just suddenly decided to stop the books?

You mean like stop them before the series is over? And never write a seventh book? Well, the fans would be very disapointed, and most of them would turn against her and send her hatemail, write blogs about how she "betrayed them" and other angsty stuff. Which is pretty sad.

I feel that it is well within her right to stop writing anytime she feels like it (unless of course, she is under a contract with the publisher that says otherwise). I mean, suppose I become a great basketball player and gain millions of fans that would be deeply dissapointed if I stopped playing. Do I have to keep playing just to appease the fans? Hell no. The books are hers and she can do what she wants.

Don't get me wrong, I would be very dissapointed if she stopped writing them. But she's only human and we shouldn't come to "expect" things from artists when really, they owe us very little.
