Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

Salazar Slytherin wrote:i think dd saw something dangerous in voldemort and needed to go himself instead of sending someone. voldemort would not have joined the school without dd proving he was a wizard by using magic which hagrid could not have done harry just accepted it willingly.
But I wonder why DD introduced him to magic if he saw something dangerous in him?

It is not because DD saw something in Tom and didn't in Harry oranything like that . DD left Harry with the Dursleys so that he would have a normal life.Imagine how it would be if the headmaster himself went to pick up someone who was already famous.Someone has to make sure that he was still treated normally. Hagrid was only sent as a last resort since the letters were not recieved.

It also makes sens that DD would go pick up Tom, sicne he was NOT headmaster at Hogwarts at the time. He was just the transfiguration teacher

Does anyone know how the other muggle-borns are told they are wtches/wizards? I really wouldn't believe a letter through the mailbox. Do teachers visit all of them?

I'm sure Petunia said that Lily received a letter in the post and their parents were really proud! But yeah see where you're coming from on this - I'm not sure I would believe it either!

I'm sure Hermione said that she was surprised when she got a letter inviting her to Hogwarts.
And everybody in London would already know where King's Cross was...
And HArry found Platform 9 and three quarters with the help of the Weasleys, what's to say others didn't find it the same way... asking people?

She could have asked anyone in the Leaky Cauldron.

I think JKR might have made a mistake on this. It wouldn't be the first she wasn't consistent on something?

I'd hardly call it a mistake. It's just a fact that hasn't needed to be told.
Magic probably works a little with fate, and tends to lead them in the right direction eventually.

I suppose that the children would show some wizarding prowess before the letter arrives and that would explain why strange things happen, e.g. the vanishing glass in the zoo (PS/SS)

Yeah, well exactly...emotions seem to be attatched to magic.
I can only assume that the Ministry or Hogwarts has some sort of detection system.

Yeah how do they know? It must be something to do with this law for underage magic that DD was going on about in HBP. They can detect where magic has been done but don't know by whom. Something like that I remember.

They can detect underage magic, obviously. And they know from who, as well.
Why would you think they can't detect who?
