Curiouser, don't worry about it. Nobody should be seriously offended by an opinion, and I doubt anyone here was.
As for my opinion, I don't think that there will be any homosexual characters in Harry Potter. Firstly, I believe that JKR is a Christian, so chances are she wouldn't approve of it anyway. And whatever JKR's personal stance on the issue may be; in today's society it would be impossible to put a gay character in there without making some kind of point, or take a particular stance.
a gay character would just seem out of place to the point that he/she would have had to be put in there to make a point about homosexuality.
Mrs. Luca put it quite well here. If JKR was going to write a particular character as homosexual, she would have to have a reason for doing so. With only one more book to go, I don't think we need yet another startling revelation about a character. There are plenty of loose threads that need tying up as it is.
And I saw Remus as someone who, if presented with a person that could love him despite his lycanthropy, would do his very best to love that person back, be it a male or a female.
I agree. But if he's not sexually attracted to that person, he can only ever love them in a platonic way. As for Tonks, I think that he definetly feels at least
something. It's been theorised that he's only with Tonks because of the preassure from others, but I think it would be pretty stupid of Lupin to enter a relationship that he knows from the get-go will not go anywhere. If he did that, Tonks would be far more hurt by the end of it than she would ever be if he simply told her he wasn't attracted to her.
I think Lupin is so popular with slashers because (being a werewolf), JKR has used him as the character that has been misunderstood, opressed and dispised by society because of what he is. Dispite that, he has been strong enough to accept himself and those who are close to him have learnt not to judge him and be proud of him. I don't think that he represents homosexuals specificly (although that's probably a part of it). I think that Lupin's situation is supposed to represent any and every minority group that gets discriminated against.
