With McGonagall as the headmistress, do you think that Peeves will be permitted to stay?

I think that Dumbledore kept him around because he liked having a bit of mischief always occurring. He's just the fun type that loves a good laugh, and Peeves was always good for that, even if he was the only one laughing.

Personally, I think McGonagall will allow him to stay because she seemed to really appreciate all he did to Umbridge. Of course she may grow tired of some of his escapades, but I think he'll be slightly better for her than he was for Dumbledore because I think he's bright enough to realize that she won't take as much cr*p. I really want him to be able to stay because he provides a senseless humor that is so necessary in such hard times (and I hate Filch and anyone that torments Filch is A-okay in my book).

I've added my two knuts, so now I'd like to hear from some more people.

I don't necessarily agree with you, but I don't think she'll get rid of Peeves. He's become part of the school, and besiudes, where would he go?
I don't know if we'll ever get to know though.

I'm positive it will open. If for no other reason than the world needs that kind of order and regularity. Hogwarts has become this safe haven for so many people, and just a place that everyone loves so much that it would be catastrophic if it closed. It's way too important to that wizarding community to just close.

I'm sure parents will realize that their children are safer around a dozen fully qualified wizards than the usual two at home. Not to mention there are many, many protective spells placed on the castle to make it that much safer and I'm sure more would be put in place after the latest fiasco (all transportation items would be taken into Aragog's family's pit, dropped there by broomstick or thestral no doubt, so if anymore Death Eaters tried to get into the castle they'd be eaten before they could make it 4 yards, but that's just my suggestion). Attendance will still have dropped quite a bit, so many children have already been taken out and I wouldn't doubt if the Death Eaters get atleast one or two over the summer just to make people more afraid, but there will still be those that will attend. An education is really important in these troubled times, because if you child doesn't learn to defend himself, how can you imagine to keep them alive?

i'm quite sure hogwarts will remain open. the books have always centered around a year at school. now, how long h/r/hr stick around, i don't know.
as for peeves, he will stay, no matter what. wasn't it said in hbp (or maybe an interview? i'm getting them all confused) that peeves was like dry rot, that you can't really get rid of him, but dd just sort of kept him a bit undercontrol? (now i'm thinking that may have been the tlc/mugglenet interview. i don't know. i'll look it up.)

In an interview I read, someone asked JKR why Dumbledore allows Peeves to stay. She said that nobody can get rid of him. He's a spirit that haunts the place, so I guess that would make it inherently difficult in the first place. Even if Dumbledore ever did manage to get rid of him, it would only be a matter of time before he popped up again worse than ever after being kicked out. I think that Dumbledore had a soft spot for Peeves too, and perhaps Peeves even appreciated that in his own bizzare way.

Now that Dumbledore's gone, personally I'd like to see the Bloody Baron keep Peeves in his place

If Peeves can't be throw out of the castle, then how come Filch keeps trying? If Dumbledore couldn't do it, then I'm sure he'd let Filch know this, and I know if Filch kept pestering me about something I couldn't do then I'd sack him. He's horrible to the students anyhow. I really see no reason to keep Filch, but that's another subject.

Fleur also said that if a poltergeist entered Beauxbatons, he would be expelled like that *imitates Roger Davies blank look and repition of slapping the table*.

But JKR does renig quite a bit, but that is, yet again, another subject.

in the mugglenet interview JKR says that peeves is a bit like dryrot, you can control it for a while but it'll always be there and you just can't get rid of it.

actually this is what she said,

ES: Why does Dumbledore allow Peeves to stay in the castle?

JKR: Can't get him out.

ES: He's Dumbledore, he can do anything!

JKR: No, no no no no. Peeves is like dry rot. You can try and eradicate it. It comes with the building. You’re stuck. If you've got Peeves you're stuck.

ES: But Peeves answers to Dumbledore -

JKR: Allegedly.

JKR: Yeah. I see Peeves as like a severe plumbing problem in a very old building, and Dumbledore is slightly better with the spanner than most people, so he can maybe make it function better for a few weeks. Then it’s going to start leaking again. Would you want Peeves gone, honestly?

MA: If I was Harry I might, but as a reader I enjoy him. I enjoyed him most when he started obeying Fred and George at the end of book five.

JKR: Yeah, that was fun. I enjoyed that. That was satisfying. [Laughter.]

i think jkr is fond of peeves. and so am i ...cause he does the stupidest things and he's always trying to bring laughter in the castel.
and since she likes him...he will always be at hogwarts...cause she has supreme power over her own little created world. and i kinda like the way she pictured him on her site...just like a clown. nothing really scary about him...so why would anyone want to get rid of him?
and as far as flitch is concerned...he is a squib...i don't think he trully understands magic. and so he does not think it is imposible to get rid of him. just like the other minister who said that wizards are magic and can do anything. but peeves has his own magic.
