well marriage would be a bit far, it's not set in the days of pride and prejudice, when people can only be together through marriage.

and it's obvious why ron went with lavender, he was insecure about never kissing anyone, so took the first thing he could get his hands on and lavender had been making eyes at him throughout the early part of the book, so he reacted to his insecurity and anger at knowing for certain that hermione kissed viktor by kissing lavender, it was revenge or something in his head.

it was that and everything to do with their miscommunicated relationship.

I gotta say, the whole Ron/Hermione thing has been going on since at LEAST GoF, but it's lightly hinted at even as far back as CoS. I thought it was so obvious, I had assumed (until reading HBP) that Ron and Hermione were secretly dating.

In CoS, it's always ALWAYS Ron who's ready to get into fights to defend Hermione's honor, and he seems more upset than Harry does when she's petrified.

In PoA, their regular sparring seemed like an obvious start of a relationship for a couple of 13-year-olds.

In GoF, Hermione is as much an established member of the Weasley "family". The most obvious hints at a budding relationship are the events surrounding the Yule Ball. Ron is visibly jealous of Krum, not for his Quidditch talents, but because he believes Hermione likes Krum. Also, this is the first book where there's an actual mention of Ron's notice that Hermione is more than a friend, she's a girl. He's a little thick sometimes.

In OotP, it's obvious Hermione and Ron are spending quite a bit of time together without Harry, what with them knowing about the Order before him and their both being prefects. The casual and accepted telling-each-other-what-to-do reminds me of my relationship with my husband, and the relationships of most people who are dating (Ron smiles and tells Hermione to back of Harry when he arrives), and he speaks on her behalf to stand up to Harry, which means he probably comforted her when she was upset.

Many people believe that because Harry is the star of the books, and Hermione is the main girl, they should be together, but Harry's made it quite clear that he does NOT see her as anything more than a very good friend.

I was glad to see them together, but to say that this relationship wasn't in the making early on is pushing it.

LOL. You're kidding right? There is no guessing involved. Their jealosy is so apparent its ridiculous. The nervousness they feel when intimate with each other. Its not a matter of debate, its been blindingly obvious since Goblet of Fire (there were signs earlier, but back then it was still debatable).

tanuki, seriously are you trying to continue your shipping argument that they aren't good for each other?

i don't see any point in arguning further, so i will resort to something i had been holding back from doing for quite a while, so i shall use the words of JKR, :D

ES: We thought it was clearer than ever that Harry and Ginny are an item and Ron and Hermione — although we think you made it painfully obvious in the first five books —

JKR: [points to herself and whispers] So do I!

ES: What was that?

JKR: [More loudly] Well so do I! So do I!

ES: Harry/Hermione shippers - delusional!

JKR: Well no, I'm not going to - Emerson, I am not going to say they're delusional! They are still valued members of my readership! I am not going to use the word delusional. I am however, going to say — now I am trusting both of you to do the spoiler thing when you write this up —

[More laughter.]

JKR: I will say, that yes, I personally feel - well it's going to be clear once people have read book six. I mean, that’s it. It’s done, isn’t it? We know. Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione. I do feel that I have dropped heavy -

[All crack up]

JKR: - hints. ANVIL-sized, actually, hints, prior to this point. I certainly think even if subtle clues hadn't been picked up by the end of “Azkaban,” that by the time we hit Krum in Goblet...

i laughed quite alot when i read this... notice those ANVIL sized hints anywhere?

It was obvious after book 3 that those two were meant for each other...now we have proof from JKR that it is indeed...Ron and Hermione!!!

I'm sorry, but I hate them as a couple. I just see them being nice for all of a month and then bickering worse than ever; leading to less communication and just an angry Ron and Hermione

Yep. Even if Harry/Ginny happened which i like more than I thought I would, I still hate that pairing. It's too... steriotypical. Even if it is going to happen. I still hate it. It's not like they're going to become different people once they hook up, so why should their arguments stop?

 Oh, the arguments will continue. That's what Ron and Hermione do. But ultimately, they balance each other out, and they bring out each other's strengths. Hermione uses more street sense when she's around Ron, and Ron, despite his weaknesses, is a braver, more loyal person when Hermione is around.

They can't fight evil their whole relationship, and it's when they have quiet moments that their relationship is the ugliest.

I think they'll bicker and disagree throughout their relationship, but that will going out will make them more aware of the others feelings, and therefore less combatative. I think it'll make 'em both happier, so less likely to argue. A fair few of their arguments are about the fact they obviously like each other but afraid to do anything about it - eg. Krum, Lavender.

Ron had to grow emotionally, and to be honest that first ever relationship is always doomed. Ergo, Ron had to fool around with someone other than Hermione.

To put it annother way, he had to blow the stupid adolecencent cr*p out of his system so he could learn what real emotions are.
