I don't suppose Goblins can write, or have and real sense?

If they do, then Bill mentions a Goblin named Ragnok in OOTP page 81, however that only fills the R of RAB.

I am not completely sure that it was Regulus, I more think it was a 2 part team as in R.... And B...... perhaps?

Clutching at straws to try to find an identification I am looking through OOTP too find any names that may have came up in the passing and could have a relevance to RAB.

Could it be another note, such as that which harry was shown upon his first arrival at 12 Grimmauld Place, what I mean is does the holder of the note have to be in a specific place and think the words of the note through to make the horcrux or some kind of information appear?

We'll just have to wait and see.

think ur right, i doubt all our combined research has overlooked something unless the initials aren't in reference to a name!

Maybe RAB is Ali Bashir, who sells flying carpets in the GOF.

i hadn't trusted any regulus black theories, but then i read the interview with JK rowling between her and mugglenet and leaky cauldron founders, and her rection when they mentioned RAB was quite strange...

MA: R.A.B.

JKR: Ohhh, good.

[All laugh.]

JKR: No, I'm glad! Yes?

MA: Can we figure out who he is, from what we know so far?

[Note: JKR has adopted slightly evil look here]

JKR: Do you have a theory?

MA: We've come up with Regulus Black.

JKR: Have you now?

MA: Uh-oh.

[Laughter.]

JKR: Well, I think that would be, um, a fine guess.

MA: And perhaps, being Sirius’s brother, he had another mirror –

JKR: [drums fingers on soda can]

MA: Does he have the other mirror, or Sirius’s mirror —

JKR: I have no comment at all on that mirror. That mirror is not on the table. [Laughter from all; Jo's is maniacal.]

MA: Let the record note that she has drummed her fingers on her Coke can in a very Mr. Burns-like way.

the quality of her silence is suspicious...

also sirius's mirror!!! she said that would be important but not in the way we expected it to be. i'm suspicious now. she's definitly plotting something....

But the mirror broke, didn't it? I suppose it can be fixed, a good Reparo spell might do the trick...Should we start a thread on ways the mirror will be important?

I was under the impression there are 2 mirrors...the one HP broke, and the one Sirius would've needed to correspond with HP -- am I wrong? Maybe I just assumed that but it might not be right after all. ????

i never even considered that the mirrors might be linked to regulus and the whole RAB thing, it was always a sirius /harry thing for me...but she laughed manically!!!!! she's up to something, and i don't know what. but i suspect it involves the mirrors. :-?

also regulus died 15 years ago according to the black family tapestry and i assume that can't be fooled. so maybe he found it before he died and left that heavy locket in the house as so many have speculated.

I think you are right, there must be two, three if Regulus had one as well. Maybe it is now amongst the DE's and will provide HP with more insight to what LV is up to.

I'm not sure what you mean by this Snowy, please clarify.

Also, I'd suggest everyone goes and reads the interview Thestral posted about; lots of good theory fodder there. There's also additional proof about the Regulus Black/locket at number 12 line of thought.

"JKR: Well, I'm prepared to bet you now, that at least before the week is out, at least one of the Horcruxes will have been correctly identified by careful re-readers of the books."

I think that whoever suggested the locket at grimmauld got this one. She seems to think it's at least a little obvious. Then again, it could be in a different book all together. *sigh* Time to start rereading the series. Chapter one, the boy who lived...

Random stuff in this post...

Few minor points of interest I picked up in this thread: Slughorn mentioned when he was discussing Sirious's choice at Gryffindor that he got his brother Regulus, but would have rather liked the set. . .

This sounds like Slughorn was proud (for loss of a better word) of getting Regulus in his house since he "wanted the set"; This could also be brought down to how Sirius was a clever student he wanted in his house.

Anyway, this would discredit any theories that Regulus was a poor wizard, seeing as Slughorn had "an uncommon knack for picking those who would excel in their field"

Also love the way someone picked up about the locket in the Black house, very JKR like to pop it in there in such an innocent manner.

Also thought it was worth mentioning that not only death eaters use the name Dark Lord for Voldy, Trelawny used that title in her "real" predictions (both to Harry and DD) and if I recall correctly (dont have OoTP book atm) Umbridge refers to him as the Dark Lord?

Also someone mentioned it spelt BAR backwards, this is incredibly far-fetched, but when I first read the book my mind jumped immediately to Bellatrix Lestrange. . . no idea why. . . but anyway, can anyone confirm Bella's maiden name?

Borgin of Borgin and Burkes also soudns interesting, since this guy seems to always have a hidden agenda, very silky and sly character; also he mutters to himself a little after Luscious leaves his shop, indicating his dislike for death eaters? But Borgin is not dead, and I would think we could safely assume if the person who wrote it thought they would die, they would die.

Lastly, I have a strong suspicion that the initials do not actually represent a person, but a club of some sort. As soon as I get my OoTP back I'm gonna trawl the books, ill post what i find here, since ive become a dedicated reader of the forums

When is the damn book 7 coming out. . .

the interview is an interview that JKR gave to the founders of the 2 biggest HP websites, mugglenet and the leaky cauldron. the link to mugglenet and the interview is:

http://www.mugglenet.com/jkrinterview.shtml

the interview is in three parts so read them all. it's very very interesting and gives lots of insight. sooo much theory fodder there that i don't know where to start.

also digby_202, bellatrix's maiden name was black, she's sirius's cousin and narcissa is her sister.
