A little odd... and unfair?

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

A little odd... and unfair?

Postby Lelie » Tuesday 19 July 2005 3:26:30am

does anyone else find it strange, and a little unfair, that dumbledore went to tell tom riddle that he was a wizard and bring him to hogwarts, yet he sent hagrid for harry? :???: granted, he wasn't headmaster when he went to get tom, but still. doesn't it seem like harry would have rated a visit from dumbledore himself? it's not like people would have been jealous of the personal visit or something... i mean... its harry potter. anyway... just a thought.

Well, first of all when DD went to get Tom he wasn't the DD he would later become. I mean yes I'm sure he was a great and respected wizard even then but not the same DD he would become. Plus I think Hagrid was sent to get Harry to show that although Harry had survived and nearly killed Voldemort he was still a normal person. I mean that is one of the reasons Harry was sent to live with the Dursleys (aside from the fact that DD used old magic that involved aunt petunia being blood related). DD told Harry that he was pleased to see that when Harry arrived at Hogwarts he was not the spoiled little Prince he would've been had he grown up in a wizard house. Plus if DD had gone to get Harry it would've shown Harry was his favorite already (which he was later accused of anyway but thats beside the point).

I deffinately agree with this, plus Hagrid had been involved with Harry's family and was the one that rescued him from the rubble at Godric

also he knew that hagrid had cared about lily and james and had been upset to give harry over so i'm sure it felt like a nice thing to do for hagrid.

Esp when u could count Hagrid as DD greatest friend, not that DD seemed like that, if not most loyal follower

Ket's not forget; if you're gonna go get a boy away from abusive relatives, do you go yourself or do you send your biggest friend in case there's a scuffle. Remember people, Dursley had a gun

I dont think a gun would both DD or any decent wizard, but i bet Dursley pooped his pants when he saw Hagrid

i can't imagine DD being scared by a gun! also i think hagrid just hada greater dramatic impact as a messenger from the magical world. DD although obviously magical isn't quite so obtuse. hagrid however is, and made the news that harry was a wizard more of a shock to the system. dramatic license that's all it is.

Very true probably easier to convince Harry of there being another world whereas Riddle always though that he was different!

Well, DD wasn't headmaster at the time he met Riddle was he? I wouldn't expect a headmaster to go meet a new student personally. Besides, Hagrid hjad a lot to tell and show him - and Dd would, as head be v. busy.

Plus Hagrid had shown attatchment to the baby Harry, maybe DD was allwoing him to get HP for sentimental reasons.

i think dd saw something dangerous in voldemort and needed to go himself instead of sending someone. voldemort would not have joined the school without dd proving he was a wizard by using magic which hagrid could not have done harry just accepted it willingly.
