Colours and royalty

I've just noticed something interesting:
One apparently widely supported theory about who is the half blood prince says it's Godric Gryffindor. Now, choosing the colours of the four houses, JKR seems to have gone with the traditional meaning of colour, such as the fact that red is associated with passion and courage while blue (Ravenclaw) symbolizes wisdom. Now, the colours of Gryffindor, red and gold, do not only stand for courage but both are traditionally a symbol of royalty. In china, for instance, gold was the royal color used by the emperors, representing power and authority. Under the penalty of death, no Chinese person other than the emperor was permitted to be clothed in any shade of yellow or gold. In the old western monarchies however, the colour that traditionally stands for royalty is red.
This might point out towards GG being the Half Blood Prince.

Another thing is the colour green, the eye colour Harry inherited from his mother. Traditionally, it stands for harmony and unconditional love.
There's however another side, the 'green from envy'-side. JKR somehow seems to connect green with evil: It's the colour of Slytherin (together with silver, the counterpart of gold), of snakes, basilisks, Lucius Malfoy seems to favour it, and the light of the unforgivable curses is green.
Maybe something of this explains why Harry's green eyes are so important? I dunno...I just wanted to mention it.

I realize they look just like his mothers, but in the lineage, perhaps there is some other connection here. I will be interested to see what happens!

wow, that was a pretty cool observation Siana!!! May be Lily has some connection to the evil wizards? o.o ....

About red and gold colors - for some reason I aways thought that half-blood prince would be a good person, and if they are coming from Gryffindor - they of course will be. So this ties it to the theory of Gryffindor being the prince ^-^

Hmm that really could be something. Of course, it's just as likely it isn't, but it's an interesting observation, and the Half-Blood Prince may have some sort of relation to it.

hmmmmmmmmm ... but will the half-blood-prince be good tho? so far, the book titles have always been about something or someone who suffered or brought suffering. the stone caused people to do anything for it, and almost ressurected voldie. the chamber had a basilisk, and was tyring to rid the school of the "unworthy". the prisoner, Black, caused much pain, worry, and lived a desparate, dangerous, lonely and sad life, and an undeserved one too. the goblet creates and fosters prejudice, and death. so maybe the half-blood-prince will do something similar... if JK hadnt already denied it, i would say that the HBP was LV. mayb it is GG, but it will have tragic repercussions, and cause much strife.

Yes, I've found something at wikipedia: Purple sometimes symbolizes royalty, dating back to Roman times, when clothing dyed with Tyrian purple was limited to the upper classes.

Also purple as one of the liturgical colours in Christian symbolism can express sorrow and mourning.

And then I've found this in a dictionary: Imperial power; high rank: "born to the purple".

Anyway, what I want to say by this? Well, the colours of the four houses are red, green, blue and yellow (Yellow? I'm not sure.), but there is one person who wears purple robes and it's Dumbledore. Can this colour symbolise something about him?

On the other hand, in the Middle Ages, green represented evil or demonic beings and sometimes love.

Oh, that sounds interesting! Dumbledore being the HBP would certainly fit, as he is in some way the direct opponent of Voldemort, the heir of Slytherin. A HBP wouldn't be as cheesy as heir of Gryffindor, but still...I have to say that I don't quite like the idea. I don't know why, it seems like somewhat of a cliché.

I like Hagger's idea, the HBP being someone or something bad would be more of a surprise, I think.

I'd like HBP to be someone evil too, not Godric or Dumbledore. Or Snape. JKR, make Snape the HBP!!! (so I can read more about him).

But since he is supposed to be half-blood, I think that he will more likely be of the good side, because at Voldie's side everyone is pure-blood (except Voldie, of course). On the other hand, maybe if there was someone exceptional, Voldemort would admit a half-blood into his ranks too...

i do think that we kno the half blood prince, as how else would it have been possible for it to be in CoS? possibly, it could be someone new, but im not convinced.

thanks for the support! we have enough good characters, and only a few really evil ones. the thing is, if the HBP was good, they wouldnt be very interesting. they wouldnt want to be called prince, cos that makes them power hungry. they would be boring. if the HBP was one of LV's supporters, they would have had to claw up the ranks with difficulty, so they would have to be really evil. that has alot more depth as a character.

Hm, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that Half Blood Prince can either mean a prince who is a halfblood, or a prince of halfbloods. The second option wouldn't necessarily mean he's a halfblood himself. It would be quite ironic, a Prince of halfbloods who is a pureblood, and the Lord of the purebloods, who is a halfblood.
Then again, why would The Prince of Halfblood want to join Voldemort?

i like that siana!! but half bloods arent really banded together. they seem to be spread around alot, doing nothing, on both sides. still, it sounds like a cool idea to me. hmmmm

people would join voldie for alot of reasons. voldie was half blood, but still hates muggles. its perfectly possible. and, for a half-blood to hate muggles would have to be a big reason, so he would probably be extreme enough for LV

Also, Voldemort has forced people to join him, and he would probably not mind having HBP on his side or something like that.
