Fantasy/Sci-Fi

This is a place to discuss all other fantasy related books, movies, or even TV shows. There are some fantastic ones out now, and with the massive success of The Lord of the Rings on film, where most other fantasy flicks bomb out, I'm sure there'll be an uprising on magic on the big screen. Fantasy books have that extra something special about them. It's like at any time, anything could happen. It's why so many authors today are choosing to write them, and I think this is a good time to celebrate it. What have you all read? :)

Hahaha, yes...there are the chronicles of Narnia coming out soon, supposed to be the Hobbit and I heard there was a movie panned for Elric of Melneborn too...and Terry Brooks has sold movie rights to Magic Kingdom of Landover series so hopefully there will be a movie of that.

My fave authors are Tolkien, Rowling and Terry Brooks but recently I've discovered I now understand the humour in the Discworld series so I'll be kept busy trying to catch up with that series....

The Discworld series is fantastic.... :D Of course Death and The Death of Rats are the best characters.

So far I've only read Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic...have got the art companion though, that was what made me decide to try and read them again actually because I tried years ago and didn't like them then.

My favorite author, Orson Scott Card, writes mostly sci fi and fantasy. I like pretty much everything I've read by him.

Scellanis, I didn't care much for The Colour of Magic either, in fact I found it quite dull. But some of his other works are VERY good. One that I would suggest is Mort. It was one of the first Pratchett books I read. It's about an awkward, unconfident kid who becomes Death's apprentice.

In honesty, a lot of his earlier books are a bit of a trek, and I've not enjoyed his latest ones so much...but some of them are absolutely fantastic. I couldn't comment on Mort though as it's one of the few I've never been able to get hold of; whether that's a good sign?

No, the first time I tried them my sister said Witches abroad was the funniest of the series and I hated it....

then at Christmas I got the art book and decided I wanted to try reading them again and this time started at the beginning and loved them.

Pratchett's new children's Discworld book on the Nac Mac Feegle is coming out soon.

Just to keep the updates... updated.
