Bellatrix pain

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

I for one don't like it at all. In my opinion, JKR set such a wonderful statement in PoA when she made Harry ask for Wormtail's life instead of just letting Sirius and Lupin kill him. I wouldn't want that destroyed by a kind "revenge is okay"-statement. Apart from that, Neville is a such a warmhearted boy, do you think it would do him any good if he killed her? He's not at all coldblooded, so if he did her in in a rush of anger, it would probably haunt him for the rest of his life.

Actually, I have no idea why, but I'd love to see a duel of Bellatrix and Snape. It was an option in the duel pairings thread, and almost everyone thought it was a very tough question. I'd really like to know the answer.

In the case of Neville vs. Bellatrix, this is one case where revenge is believable. You may think him warm and affable, but I somehow can believe that he's been letting this truth eat away inside of him. He could even be planning revenge. harry may not want revenge on wormtail, but that's mainly because he's too pathetic. There is nothing to be gained from it. Bellatrix is still dangerous, and she openly and wantonly admits her sins. She even intends to do them again. This is not just about revenge, it's about justice. Justice isn't always neat or clean, and Azkaban is not enough sometimes. This is a sad reality. Sometimes, you have to destroy someone before they can hurt anyone else.

They're definitely not going to reform her, and jailing her doesn't work

sure, neville had reason for revenge. but so did harry, and he didnt do it. neville is a nice person. besides, it is a theme in hte books. good over evil. love over hate. revenge is not good, and it is not loving. i dont think it has a place in hte books.

Yes, the part with Neville's mum was one of the most touching parts in the books, I think. But revenge won't heal her, and revenge won't make Neville feel better. One crime cannot be made undone with another. If Neville became a murderer because of Bellatrix, it would make the whole story even sadder, because in that case, she wouldn't only have destroyed Frank and Alice Longbottom, but also the kindness and innocence in the heart of their child. It would be a full victory of Bellatrix, a triumph of hate over love, and the insanity would go on and on. Revenge is never righteous, it is a dark carricature of righteous feelings.
Salazar Slytherin's fear of Muggles was righteous, and so was Tom Riddle's hate for his father. Their revenge never brought justice, only destruction and pain. Severus Snape starves for revenge, and he's not a happy man. Not at all.

Revenge will consume you. Who knows, maybe even Bellatrix's first reason was just that?

This isn't just about revenge. It's about stopping very evil people. Do you honestly think that Bellatrix will stop being evil if Voldermort is dead or if left alone. She is a dangerous person and has to be stopped, no matter the method

Yes, she has. I'm not denying that, I just say that it wouldn't make Neville feel better.

Yes it will.
I totally agree with you, but revenge doesn't necesarily mean he has to commit murder...He can find a way to imprison her forever, or something like that, maybe he could send her to Azkaban or something, and just be the reason of her downfall.

Plus, I never said he'd feel better after doing this, but it would be done. He could at least let it go then

...I'm finding it hard to believe he would just be able to "let go" of the fact that his parents are senseless, tortured to insanity, so I say Neville should help capture her and Lupin or Harry can kill her. I only say Lupin because she killed his last dear friend, and is an adult that works in the Order, and I'm not sure I want Harry to be a murderer before he has to...

the only thing is that you can't put themes into black and white staements, good v evil, love v hate, revenge is always wrong etc. if the world was so black and white then it wouldn't be so messed up. i don't know how i would feel if neville had his revenge , but then most of the time in real life you can never really full heartedly decide how you feel about most people.

perhaps revenge is like jealousy, "beware the green-eyed monster that doth mock the meat it feeds on". will revenge only lead to self-destruction, yes it did in wuthering heights. once you have had you revenge what is left for you to live for? if you live for revenge once you get it, you're left without a purpose.

I kinda like the Bella lady personally. Even though she's done so much to hurt people, she just has this power that seems to come from her that makes her almost as scary as Voldemort. Though I really don'tknow if Neville will get his revenge or not since she is such an experienced witch.

definitly she has some funky evil mojo going down  no but seriously, you're right cedric, she does have that same sort of voldie evil thing, a real sense of power, evil and depth of conviction that sets her apart from the other DE's. and i personally want to see more from her, cos she's too great a villian to dispatch of too quickly, which is why she's didn't get her comuppence in OotP. I think she will become the secondary baddy/hate figure and she's a very good one, cos she's intriguing. we have alot more to see from this lil' lady.

I've always wondered if that was the reason Voldemort spared her life at the end of OotP. Is it because he knows she is loyal to him or just because he was hoping that DD couldn't use her to prove that he was back even though so many people saw him. I mean Voldemort isn't a forgiving person.
