When Victor said that it is colder where I live....can it be possible that he is referring to the school dormitory instead of his actual address in Bulgaria?
Afterall the students would be spending most of the time in the school.

Could be Choki, but I don't think so. I vaguely think it was implied by the way they dressed that they do in fact, live in a colder climate.

I'd say that if they didn't live in Bulgeria, it would be unlikely that Victor Krum would play for another nation's quidich team.

well maybe he just goes to a school in another country? It may be a school for students from different countries... Thus, Draco's parents also wanted to send their son there.

Do you know that there is not even one person in Bulgaria whose name is Krum?

Krum was an ancient ruler in our country (803-814). Apart from him there are no Krums here now. All of our last names end with "off" (ov) for males and "ova" for girls.

Excelent point Broccoli, I had completly forgotten about that.

I suppose that it would be difficult for him to maintain his schoolwork if he was constantly switching countries for practice and tournaments though.

As for the last name, I don't think that witches and wizards are even known to exist as human beings by the government and such. I mean, I doubt that they vote or are ever called for jury duty. So it would be impossible to tell how many of them there are, and how far they might stray from the social norms.

In my country Krum is a creature, some bad man, who steals children who don't behave and don't obey their parents.

Another question:
The borders of the countries as we know them now are a result of centuries of wars between kings, politicians etc...muggles so to say. Do wizards accept that? Depending on how old Durmstrang is, it must have changed its nationality countless times. So the question is if wizards do have the same borders as humans have.

Interesting point Mistress Siana, I somehow doubt that Wizrds would consider Muggle borders as their own... I suspect that they keep "historical" borders, like the pyrenees being the border for Spain and France. Also language is probably another thing thats determines borders.

back to the Durmstrang thing, I´m pretty sure that its more to the north than Hogwarts, and the fact that the Durmstrang people came on a ship, suggests that its either on an island or on the coast. Also, Krum mentioned that there where mountains nearby (in GoF).

Hmm... I think that perhaps wizards to stick to muggle borders, just to make it less confusing. I mean, they do separate themselves from muggles but they still have to interact with them just a little.

There's Ministry of Magic and I think that when Sirius Black escaped from Azkaban, Fudge informed the Muggle prime-minister, so I suppose that they're partially under him or at least there is some co-operation between wizards and muggles. I would think that every country has its own Ministry of Magic, so as the borders change, new Ministries are formed.

But not schools, I doubt that every country would now create itself a new school, there doesn't seem other schools in Europe besides Hogwarts, Durmstrang and Beaux... whatever its name is... :-?

First, I know, ideally, I would have actually read each and every post, but I only have a week to be online (I hate feeling stuck in the mid-nineties) so I have to compress!

Anyway, I've always felt it was fairly clear that Durmstrang is in Bulgaria. Krum is obviously from Bulgaria (World Cup), they speak Bulgarian (I believe... at least, they have Bulgarian accents), and -- I know this is not a major point, but worth mentioning -- J.K. Rowling approved the casting of only a Bulgarian actor to play Krum (I think, but, hey you know, I haven't been online in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time, so be nice cuz there's a good chance I'm wrong about that  ). Regardless, Krum is Bulgarian, but then again, there are Brittish, Scottish, Irish and Indian students at Hogwarts, since it seems to cover the entire United Kingdom. (shrug) I think it's in Bulgaria, though.

Hogwarts seems to cover the entire United Kingdom, and if Durmstrang covers the whole Eastern Europe area (Yugoslavia, Czechoslovacia (my most profound to anyone from there if I butchered the names), Bulgaria, etc.) and Beauxbatons covers the rest of the Western European countries, namely France (that seems to be quite clear, by the way).
