Yeah, thats what most of the people (leaving outside of Japan) think!!! We were sooo surprised to hear that its avoided by adults and older teens.
For example, this one guy,in his upper 20s, said that he would never in his life mention that he is an anime fan to his coworkers. And he said that the funny thing is - he is sure that some of his coworkers enjoy anime too, but noone would say anything about it, as they are afraid of being shunned...
He said that they had this serial killer that would do horrific things to kids (i was in shock for a week when I read it) and when they found his place - he had toons of anime tapes and all. So now if you are an adult and watching anime - there is this horrible association people have with you.

and then a lot of teens (like older then 14) complained that if they would talk about that in school they would get bullied (unless anime that they are watching has a very high rating I guess)...

Anyway, on the lighter note.. Anime magazine has:
Couple of pretty double pages with big picks and intros to characters to brand new (some not yet released in US) or just popular shows. Little summaries/character picks for "just came out" shows, "Art of ...(show name)... (basically the character designs),
New games reviews, new manga reviews, new CDs reveiws, tips for drawing on photoshop, fanart, summaries of new episodes for shows in japan (why they do it is beyong me...), schedule for US. List of everything new anime/manga related that will come out in US. And so on...
Plus it includes a centerfold and a DVD with 2 episodes of some new shows and bunch of trailers...They used to give us free poster and stickers but not anymore.
I dont read it really..may be just a little XD, I just look at pictures and watch the DVD. <.<
