Has it ever been mentioned where Durmstrang is? It sounds German, but most of the students we have met so far have Slavic surnames - Poliakoff, Krum (Bulgarian), Karkaroff... It may be somewhere in the north, because "the days are very short in winter", as Krum says. On the other hand, days are always very short in winter, at least here where I like (Central Europe) and this is not far to the north. And as for the language they speak at school, can it be German (Germany does not seem far in the north either) or some Slavic language? I have heard an opinion once that it may be formerly an Austro-Hungarian empire school and then the language can be German, as that was the language spoken there by everyone (besides Latin).
