If you're going to have to look something up in a dictionary you may as well do it in a proper one, to save trouble and time if it' not in a child's one. Nothing worse than knowing a word exists but not being able to find it in a dictionary because it's not a very good one!

I'm a bit confused, but you might not have gotten what I meant:

a) You look up the word A. In the definition it mentions the word B. B is unavailable in the proper dictionary because it is such an easy word.

b) You find the word B in the childrens' dictionary. yay.

Solution: Get a good dictionary that has all the words...

Those are hard to find, they take up several shelves on your library, and cost a goood amount.

Nearly thirty thick, heavy books? And even those don't have all the words.

Well a dictionary with all the words would have to be updated regularly because of the scientific discoveries etc.
Our language is still changing.

Well by all I meant minus the REAL big ones that no one ever uses, and minus the REAL small ones (i.e., can, will, she, he)

siana, i really like this. i would call it a poem: a poem is something whcih describes the essence of something. you can read the definition of what an eagle is in an encyclopedia, but to truly understand it, you need a poem. this poem can really help you understand snape, and how you interpret his killing of DD. im not sure how it went myself, but seriously, this is amazing stuff!

on dictionaries... well, theyre useless. ive never liked them, never will. a word has too many meanings, which are too subtle to be explained with other words. for example, whats the difference between will and shall? and yes, kids dictionaries rock!

Thank you Hagger, I'm glad you liked it; it was a bit of an experiment, and I didn't quite know what to think of the outcome.

Is it a poem? I found this and immedeately had to think of you all. It's amazing!

How do you recognize a poem when you see one?
