Three Abandoned Boys/Refuge

Postby GodrictheGriffon » Thursday 26 July 2007 4:01:01pm

This is a poem that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows inspired. See if you can figure out who it is about.

***************************************************************************************************************

Three Abandoned Boys
Sat all in a boat
All dark-haired and white as snow
Not knowing where to go

All were lonely
Not knowing to whom to turn
All floating on the swell
Two were orphaned and the other just as well

Each was lost within oneself
Did not at first notice eacother
One was lost along the way
The second one not long to stray

The first was never found again
The second found awhile after
He joined the third who still stayed in the float
Now only were there two in the boat

All had found a place of refuge
The same one shared by a previous many
Held together by a powerful bond
All started by a silent journey acrosst a pond

Is it about Tom Riddle/Voldy, Snape and Harry?

It took me a bit to get it. It was tricky because of the boat/pond references led you to immediately think Regulus, Voldy and Harry. Then I read it aloud and replaced Reg with Sirius because of the line about 2 orphans and the other just as well. I ended up reading it aloud 2 or 3 times before it finally clicked. :D

Good job Godric!

You mean what part of the poem/riddle????

As I reread it aloud, I paused between lines trying to decipher each line alone.

Three boys in a boat: I immediately thought of the locket so I thought the boys were Regulus, Voldy and Harry.

Each time I reread it, I overlooked the line: all dark haired and white as snow, but in the end, that was what finally made me get it.

One was lost -- I was sure this implied Voldy..."lost" to the world of good.
The second one not long to stray - Originally thought Regulus, but Snape fit here too.

The first never found again -- clearly Voldy.
The 2nd found after a while -- again, could have been regulus, which is why it too me so long to figure out the riddle.

Place of refuge I assumed was Hogwarts. And finally the silent journey across a pond clicked. That's when I reread it one last time and caught the line about dark hair and white as snow.

Well done Godric. Do you plan on writing any more?

Very good poem! When you read it to me, I was in a very good part of Muggles and Magic. But I wouldn't have known what it was about anyway. I knew it was about HP, because you were reading DH, but that's as far as I got. You know I'm bad at interpreting poems.

What do you mean, I didn't get it? :???:

I got it the first time you read it.

Anyway, it's a great poem :)
