Year One: Here They Come

Postby bellatrixblacklestrange » Tuesday 13 April 2004 12:22:06pm

This is a fic about the Marauders in PoV. Each chapter is a different persons point of view. Some characters I introduced in my other fic but not many people seem to want to read that so I wanted to do this one.

Anyway hope you like it. Oh and the chapters are quite short because it's easier for everyone to read something short than long and boring I figured out. Without futhur ado please read on.

Chapter One
SNAPE’S FAMILY

‘Severus Snape, get down here at this instant and wake your sister!’
An eleven-year-old boy with shoulder-length greasy black hair opened his eyes. It took a few seconds to realise where he was. His bedroom. He stood and walked out his door. He didn’t bother knocking on his sister’s bedroom door. He opened it and walked inside.
‘Ahhh, Severus! Get out!’
His backed out of her room and closed the door shut with a snap and yelled ‘Mum wants us!’ and descended the stairs in their small apartment with which they lived in.
‘What did you do to your sister?’ his mother asked in a formidable way.
‘He didn’t knock again, Mum’ his sister said hitting him across the head as she sat down at the table.
‘Severus, hurry and sit down or your father will start on you’
‘He’ll start on me anyway’ he muttered as his mother walked back into the kitchen.
His sister looked at him in pity. He quickly looked away. He sat down on his chair quickly knowing how fast his father’s temper can flare at almost nothing. His father trudged in and glared at his mother, sister and resting his glare on his son. He whacked him across the head with his newspaper greeting him with a ‘Morning son’
His son sat there biting his tongue fighting an urge to strangle his father.
‘Why has my son not wished me a good morning, woman?’
‘Maybe if you didn’t greet your son with a belt across the head every morning with a newspaper he might return you a civilised greeting, Scion’
‘I get it. You want me to be more sensitive to the boy. You want me to turn him into a sissy who can cook and knows how to iron his own clothes is that it?’
‘I want you to treat your son like a person’
‘He is a person. Are you blind?’
His mother ignored his father, this started up his father’s temper. His father rose from the table. Both Severus and his sister knew it was time to go. They slipped silently away up to their rooms and shut their doors. He could hear his father laying into his mother downstairs. He opened the window to the stuffy sunny morning. Within minutes flies had started to fly into his room. Severus went and fetched his father’s wand from the table downstairs as his parents had moved their argument into the den.
He knew very well that he wasn’t allowed to do magic as he wasn’t old enough to go to school but he knew he could do it and nothing would happen to him. He had even learnt a number of spells when his father had drank so much he was drunk, and fell asleep Severus practiced with his wand and he thought to himself he wasn’t half bad.
He lay on his bed and started shooting down the flies flying around the ceiling hoping against hope he had enough magic in him to attend school as he would surely kill himself if he had to spend any more time than was necessary in his father’s company.

I changed the title to 'Swatting Flies' as it was a suggestion of my brother's. I also wanted to add that if you don't like it you can reply too. I promise I wont' bite.

Chapter Two
MAIL

‘Good Morning son, how are feeling?’
‘Great Dad, morning to you too’ Remus Lupin said as he sat down at the kitchen table.
‘Where’s your sister?’
‘I think she’s in the shower?’
His father nodded then surveyed him quietly.
‘How are you doing at school? Are you doing okay? Because I don’t much like the idea of you and your sister going to a Muggle school’
‘Dad, school’s fine. We’ve finished school anyway Dad’
‘Okay then what’s bothering you?’
‘I just have this lurking feeling about something’
‘Like what?’ his father asked, concerned.
‘I don’t know what it is or what it’s about. It’s a feeling’
‘A feeling?’ his father prompted ‘What kind of feeling?’
‘Like a feeling of … an ominous feeling’
‘An ominous feeling?’ his father repeated.
‘Yes’
‘Lyra, you finally decide to show yourself’ his father said distracted by the presence of his sister.
Remus Lupin felt grateful to her for it. He didn’t have an ominous feeling at all. It was a feeling of nerves. He would be starting a new school soon. He was a half-blood wizard. He had a Wizard father, a Muggle mother. Meaning he might not indeed be magical enough to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the school which his two elder brothers attended.
His elder brothers were home for the school holidays, his eldest brother Luke, who would be in his sixth year, was prefect and in the house, Gryffindor. Remus hoped upon hope that if he got into Hogwarts he would be in Gryffindor with Luke. Romulus his brother who was a year older than him, whom they called Romy for short, was not in Gryffindor but Ravenclaw. He was quite intelligent.
He also had a younger brother Rufus who was only a baby. Rufus cried most of the time and didn’t do much as he couldn’t walk or talk yet. He just slept most of the time.
‘Remus, Lyra you two have some mail’ his mother said, carrying a stack of envelopes in excitedly, with Rufus on her hip. His father took Rufus from his mother and started pulling faces trying to make him laugh. His mother handed both Luke and Romy brown, parchment envelopes stamped with a wax seal, written in Green shiny, loopy ink glistened at him front the front of their envelopes. His mother handed him and his sister an envelope each also. The others stopped and stared at both Remus and Lyra.
‘Well open them, then?’ their father said ‘Don’t keep me in suspense any longer’
Remus examined the purple seal, emblazoned with a coat of arms. He turned his envelope over and read the front.

Mr Remus J Lupin,
21 Maple Street, London.

He glanced sideways at his sister. They locked eyes and Remus knew at an instant what she was thinking. They both ripped their envelopes open.

Dear Mr Lupin,
We are please to inform you that you have been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

That’s all he read as his mind had gone numb with excitement. He flicked the next page over, which was a list of equipment needed and looked at his sister. She grinned.
‘YES!’ there father yelled in triumph, jumping up off his seat, forgetting he had their baby brother in his arms, he gave him to their mother and continued jumping. Remus glanced at his mother holding his baby brother and he got the distinct impression, she was a little bit upset, if not sad that they had both been accepted into school to learn magic.

Chapter Three
THE MINISTRY OF MAGIC OFFICIAL

The arrival of the mail at the Evans’s house was met with a different reaction. The letters from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry were seen as a joke. That was until someone knocked on the door.
‘Petunia, darling would you please answer the door?’ her mother asked nicely while she busied herself in the kitchen making a pot of tea.
Lily and her sister Rory had both received envelopes from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her father was examining them in suspicion. Lily wondered why only Rory and she had received envelopes and not Petunia.
Speaking of Petunia, she had just walked back into the dining room followed by a man, who was dressed the funniest by far Lily had ever seen. He was wearing midnight blue robes with Ministry of Magic stamped along the hem. A full-grown man wearing robes. Rory was laughing silently under her breath next to Lily.
‘Who are you?’ her father asked sharply.
‘I am Altair Watson, I am here to explain the letters from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry’
‘So you sent them letters?’ her mother asked through narrowed eyes.
‘No, Madam I did not but I will explain everything to you … in good time’
‘Take a seat my good man and start explaining then’ her father told him.
The man sat down in the only empty seat.
‘Is this place real?’ her father asked holding up the letter
‘Yes Mr Evans, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is indeed a real place’
‘Uh huh?’
‘Your daughters …’ he said pulling a slip of parchment out of the pocket of his robes ‘… Lily and Rory have shown signs of Magic since they were small children’
‘What about Petunia?’ her mother asked, eyeing the man suspiciously still.
‘No I am afraid she is all Muggle, sorry’
‘This stuff they need … where do we have to get it from?’
‘Diagon Alley’
‘And where is that?’ her father asked.
‘And what is that?’ her mother asked
‘It’s alright I’m supposed to show you how to get there as Muggles don’t normally go there everyday do they?’
‘No I don’t suppose we do’ her father said.
‘Are you busy today Mr Evans?’ the man, Watson asked.
‘No’ he father answered after some consideration.
‘You can take them Tom, Petunia and I are going to go shopping’
Her father nodded.
‘Lily, Rory, go get dressed’
Lily and Rory almost ran upstairs and dressed as fast as they could. Lily jangled with nerves as she walked down stairs with her sister who looked alarmingly relaxed about it all.
‘Ready?’ her father asked and Lily noticed he had on his best coat and hat.

Chapter Four
TOUJOURS PUR

At the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black where eleven-year-old Sirius slept was a different story. The mail was greeted as almost an everyday occurrence, even though two owls had delivered it. The Black family were what Wizard’s dubbed Purebloods.
This meant they were all wizard through and through and if they weren’t accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft or Wizardry. Or the other Wizarding School many of the Black family also attended, Durmstrang it brought the deepest shame upon the family. This was also forced on you if you happened to be a squib in the Black family (A squib being a non-magical person born into a magical family, such as the Black’s). A number of relatives were wiped off the family tree because of this. Either one of these things happened and you were sure to be disowned by Mrs Black.
Come to think of it she’d probably disown anyone who would turn out to be a respectable human being too. Sirius thought having just woken up, he lay in his bed lost in thought, staring absent minded at the blank canvas of the portrait, which held his great-great grandfather Phineas Nigellus. The family house elf Kreacher, who wore a loincloth, edged his way into Sirius’s room.
‘What do you want?’ Sirius asked contemptuously.
‘Young master …’ he said bowing low to the floor. ‘Your breakfast is ready. Your dear Aunt, Uncle and Cousins are here’
‘Oh Great!’ Sirius said.
Kreacher bowed himself out of the room muttering to himself missing Sirius’s sarcasm he displayed in finding out his relatives were joining them for breakfast.
Sirius dressed and walked down the stairs to the kitchen to find his parents, brother, aunt, uncle and cousins sitting around the table.
‘Why are you up so late?’ his mother spat at him ‘Regulus has been up for hours’ His mother cooed while his little brother smirked at him
‘You’re a great boy, aren’t you Regulus? Not like your brother at all, are you?’ his father said proudly.
Sirius looked across the table at his three cousins Bellatrix, Andromeda and Narcissa, the children of his father’s brother Alphard, Sirius’s favourite uncle. He absolutely loved his uncle.
His Uncle Alphard having three daughters and no son had a great effect on Sirius. He treated Sirius like a son. He treated Sirius better than his own father treated him. His daughters were spoilt brats who got everything they asked their mother for, except for Andromeda who his aunt seemed to really dislike. Sirius was in no doubt why as she was not like her mother and sisters who were giving Sirius a filthy look.
It was not hard to realise from Sirius’s point of view why Andromeda was his favourite family member. He sat down next to her and she smiled at him.
‘Good morning’ she said
‘Morning’ he replied
‘Your letter’ his mother said throwing down an envelope in front of him and as she did so she threw one in front of Andromeda. However she handed the last piece of mail to Bellatrix, who smirked broadly at them, her eyes glittering malevolently.
He and Andromeda opened their envelopes and looked at them, then exchanged to have a look at each other’s to authenticate it.
‘You too aren’t coming to Diagon Alley with us’ his mother informed them directing her speech at him and Andromeda.
Sirius and Andromeda exchanged darkly significant looks at each other.
‘Okay’ Andromeda replied slowly.
‘Whatever’ Sirius said pouring himself some juice.
When they finished their breakfast he and Andromeda stood from the table. They went into Sirius’s room. Sirius closed the door and Andromeda started.
‘I hate her. I hate her. I hate her. I absolutely positively hate that woman. I wish she were dead. I hope she seriously slips on something and dies. Then I want something to crawl into her throat while she’s dead and breed’
Sirius laughed at his cousin’s outburst and sat down on the end on his bed next to her.

Chapter Five
TOMATO ON WHITE, NO CRUSTS, BUTTER AND A LITTLE SALT

Eleven-year-old Lucia Malfoy was awoken abruptly from slumber by her elder brother Lucius standing over her holding a beaker of poison, ready to pour.
‘Get up!’ he spat and walked out of her room.
‘Why can’t I have a lock on my door?’ she pondered out aloud.
She undressed out of her pyjamas and into her favourite pair of robes. She descended the staircase of the Malfoy family home, which was huge and the size of about six normal sized houses. It was because of this that it took her an enormous amount of time to make it into the kitchen.
‘There’s a sandwich’ her brother said, pointing to a plate on the table.
‘Where are Mother and Father?’ she asked looking around for her parents.
‘Do I actually give you the impression I care’ Lucius said coldly, his eyes glittering ‘I have to take you to get your things for school’ he added.
‘Why you?’ she asked
‘I get fifty extra galleons. As if I would give that up. Now eat your breakfast’
‘I’ll take it with me’ she said grabbing the sandwich and heading for the fireplace.
Lucius threw a handful of powder into the flames, which glittered green.
‘Where are we going exactly?’ she asked just about to step into the fire.
‘The Leaky Cauldron’ he muttered. She stepped into the fire and said quite clearly, despite the mouth full of ash she received spoke three words ‘The Leaky Cauldron
Her eyes slightly unfocused as she whirred past grates and fires and caught snatches of scenes on the other side. She landed with a soft thump in the fireplace of a dingy pub. She remembered coming into this place once when she was little when her parents had come to get Lucius’s things when he had started Hogwarts.
However her parents were hardly ever home anymore. So she knew deep down the only family she had was Lucius, which wasn’t a comforting thought. As he was known to wake her in a variety of unorthodox ways. Which included throwing spiders, water, a jar of cockroaches and a jug of pumpkin juice at her. He was also known to make her something to eat but lace it with an assortment of insects and things that crawl, or in one instance some type of sour substance, which she could smell before eating. She suspected it was poison and personally thanked her lucky stars she never ate any of it.
She took a bite of her sandwich for something to do as she waited for her brother. She spat in back into her hand instantly.
‘Ash?’ her brother asked smirking ‘I thought that would happen’ he said and he walked over to the bar ‘can I get a sandwich please?’
‘Certainly young Malfoy. What kind of sandwich you after?’ The young barman asked.
‘Plain, tomato on white bread, with no crusts, butter and a touch of salt’ Lucius told him and Lucia smirked knowing that her brother knew what her favourite sandwich filling was ‘To go’ he added.
Lucia followed Lucius eating her sandwich into the courtyard at the back of the pub. He tapped some bricks and the entrance to Diagon Alley formed. They walked into the magical street. Lucius took her into every shop to help her purchase all the necessary equipment she needed and felt that despite all the wretched things Lucius did to her. He actually cared for his little sister.

Chapter Six
A GIFT FROM HARRY POTTER

‘James, hurry or we are going to be late!’
His mother’s voice sounded from downstairs. He quickly grabbed his wand and the cage that held his owl, which was out hunting and made his way slowly, downstairs.
‘I thought you said we were leaving?’
‘We are, darling’ his mother responded.
‘Where’s Dad then?’
‘Your father is taking an enormous amount of time to get ready, your Aunt, Cousin and Grandfather aren’t here yet, and if they don’t all hurry, we are seriously going to be very late’
‘Hold on, we’re only a few minutes late, Jo’ a voice sounded from the doorway. James’s Aunt Halle’s, voice.
‘Halle? Where’s Harry?’ his Mother asked his aunt.
‘Here’ James’s Grandfather said appearing at the door, behind Halle.
‘Harry, your son is taking an awful amount of time to get ready?’ James’s mother told his grandfather.
‘I do believe he is looking for something’ his grandfather said vaguely.
‘Looking for something?’ his mother repeated ‘Why would he be looking for something, now of all times, Harry?’
‘A surprise’ his grandfather suggested in an innocent tone. James surveyed his grandfather. He knew better, he knew something was up. His grandfather tipped him a huge wink and James smirked.
‘Jakob? ’ James’s Mother said to his cousin.
‘Hey Aunt Jo, you know I’d really appreciate it if you didn’t call me Jakob anymore’
‘Why? It’s your name’ Aunt Halle told him, smirking.
‘Mum, I’d really like to be called Jake’
‘Just Jake?’ his grandfather asked ‘you don’t want to be called “The best looking, super human, wizard, with the most power in the world” anymore?’
‘Nah I got bored with people calling me that all the time … it was true see …’
‘There’s not enough time in the day for you Jake’ James told his cousin.
‘Henry, there you are! We’re going to be late!’ his Mother told his father
‘Sorry Jo, I didn’t mean to hold everyone up’ James watched his Father, who exchanged a significant glance with his Grandfather.
His Grandfather led the way out, his father being the last one out, closing the door. James noticed something funny about his Dad. It looked as though he had something stuffed in one of his pockets. He shrugged this off, however.
They piled into his Grandfather’s car and were in London in no time at all, considering his Grandfather’s care jumped every traffic cue, and travelled like a jet, James wasn’t surprised at all.
They dumped his and Jake’s trunks onto trolleys, which his Father and Grandfather pushed into the station. They followed closely behind, with his mother and Aunt Halle bringing up the rear.
His Grandfather and Father talking casually walked straight through the invisible barrier containing platform 9 ¾. James had been told about how to enter the secret platform, after receiving his letter.
Jake and he followed by mimicking them and they emerged onto a completely different station. With a gleaming, scarlet, train and a sign above them telling them they were on platform 9 ¾.
James followed his father who was stowing his and Jake’s luggage away in a compartment, while his grandfather spoke to a proud looking man, with long, dark hair and a goatee. The dark-haired boy, with pale eyes standing beside him, looking very bored could only be his son.
‘Here they are! This is James, Henry’s son’ his grandfather said pointing to himself and … Jake Halle’s son. Boys, this is Phineas Black and his son, Sirius’
The man nodded to each of them and the boy shook James and Jake’s hands in turn and mumbled a greeting. Two girls, a dark haired, heavy lidded girl and another one who looked alike, but gave a great impression of intelligence joined them.
‘These are Alphard’s daughter’s, Bellatrix and Andromeda’ Phineas Black said pointing each of them out.
‘Hello’ Andromeda said eyeing Jake.
James noticed this and hid his laughter. He chanced a look at the other girl. She looked at both James and Jake with contempt, disgust and disdain. The whistle rang out along the station and the two girls clambered onto the train, along with their cousin. Their Grandfather beckoned James and Jake away from his father and Phineas Black.
‘Quickly, I have something for the two of you’ he said pulling out two silvery cloaks from the pockets in his robes. ‘These are invisibility cloaks, handed down through each generation of Potters enjoy’ he said with pride, surveying his grandsons, smiling.
James and Jake quickly hugged and their family and jumped on the train as it started to leave. They poked their heads out the window and waved goodbye. They watched them until they became miniscule and couldn’t be seen.
‘You two aren’t going to have your heads out the train window for the entire trip are you?’ a sharp voice sounded behind them. They turned it was Sirius Black. ‘Because you know, I think you’re eyes would probably get a bit watery or something’ James raised his eyebrows at Sirius ‘Can me and Andromeda sit with you?’ he added.
James and Jake exchanged glances and nodded.
