"Who's in this Forum?"

Just a suggestion:

Can you not put who's online in a particular forum on the main page, like you do underneath the moderators in the section.

Perhaps, next to the: Moderators: [Names], [Names], [Names] Online: [Names], [Names].

You know, under the forum title and description.

It's probably possible but it would need some modifications and there are minor reasons why it's probably best not to put too much information on the index page. I've checked out the forthcoming Olympus version and it doesn't look like it's a feature there. At the moment I'm trying to only install very essential or highly functional Modifications, due to the likelihood that when (eventually) Olympus is available, all the Mods will disappears or have to be totally rewritten and/or re-added bit by bit. Although it's a nice idea, it'll probably not be something to be added to BaO currently. :)

Why would you want to not show the online users? I quite like the fact that you can see where others are reading because then you can spend time in the same forum area

You can see who's inside the actual forums when you are... just not on the Index page.

Don't see that it makes too much of a difference.

Why does it make a difference whether someone else is in the forum anyway?

If they post you will see it whether you know they are in there or not, its not gonna encourage anyone to make more posts or anything its just gonna make more work for Paul to put it in.

I'll be honest I think it's good the way it is.

I probably shouldn't be bringing back this thread but I'm really curious! What is "Olympus" and why won't there be moderators on it? Are they making it open sourced? :-? :???:

The Mods he means would be the modifications that have been added to this forum software over the years. Little patches and such. Not quite sure what they are on this particular forum. He wont be getting rid of moderators.

Woooow, absolutely keeping the Moderators. I've just re-read what I wrote
all the Mods will disappears or have to be totally rewritten and/or re-added bit by bit.

I promise I won't be re-writing the Moderators brains or sticking bits on to them. :-)

Olympus is the new (and very, long-awaited) version of the forum software (phpBB). Olympus has currently reached beta version but I'll wait until it's fully released in a final (non-beta and non-"release candidate") version before upgrading BaO (don't want to risk potential bugs in beta or "release candidate" software).

Over the time that BaO has been online, I've added a lot of different "Mods" (Modifications in this context rather than Moderators) to the basic phpBB software, but when the final version of Olympus is released, it'll be completely different to the current software and none of the Modifications are likely to work, which is why they'll need to be re-written.
