Phoenix-Free Change & Tidying Up The Books

Postby Phoenix in the Ashes » Sunday 29 May 2005 4:23:01am

I think that we're coming to the stage now that we need to scrap the Phoenix-free Room, in favour of "The Prince-Free Room" when HBP comes out. It needs to be considered.
There's only 48 days left, and that'll go like crazy, so we better just get it prepared and started up ready for the release.
Also, if The Books section is filling up too rapidly, you may like to try a Book I, II and III IV section, and a V, VI & VII section. It might just make the forum easier to manage.

I was going to suggest something along those lines myself but never quite got around to it.

Just now I've had an idea. Rather than having a "HBP free" section, why don't we have a "HBP spoilers" section? That way the people who havn't read HBP wouldn't be confined to one section to avoid spoilers, and those who have read it and want to post spoilers would have a clearly marked forum to do so. I for one know that I won't be able to read a copy of HBP until well after it is already out, and there's nothing worse than accidently running into a spoiler someone has posted that you didn't want to see.

Hmm yeah that is a good idea. One problem though. There's so many topics in The Books etc. that talk about HBP, and what it's going to be like, and once it's out, you're going to want to write in them. It'll take a lot of moving around of topic etc., and it could be extremely inconvenient. Plus, after a while it'll get annoying trying to check you haven't written anyhting that'll give HBP away when writing in different forums.
How are we going to do this eh?
Nobody even really writing in the Phoenix-free section anyway, so you might just not wanna bother at all and get rid of it......that would solve the problem  !
It's handy to have around though.

I agree that we schould probably get rid of the Phoenix-free section and I am sure we will have a HBP section, which will be the only place to discuss the spoilers - as we had it last time with book 5. It was a whole section devided into book discussion, theories, rumours, etc.

Yes, there will be something very similar to last time, probably in the manner that Broccoli has mentioned. It seemed to work reasonably well, and then after a few months (to give everyone a chance to read the Order of the Phoenix) the threads from the new-book (ie at that the the "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) theories, characters etc sections were merged into the main forum, and at the same time the smaller (single forum section) "Phoenix-free" area was created for people who still hadn't had the chance to read book 5.

I'm sure it's a lot of work for you to merge the topics after the alloted time Paul, but I do agree that it worked out well last time.

Fortunately the Moderators were hugely helpful (as always) in moving the topics last time, and many thanks to them indeed. I've just completed the new Half-Blood Prince section tonight. If anyone has any questions about it or is slightly unsure about anything, please feel free to ask. :)

Just one question which may sound a bit... odd: The rumours in HBP sections are rumours that arise after the HBP or are these rumours before and for the HBP? (I've just visited the section and saw Nikki and Tanuki there discussing it)

Phinea Rogue -- I don't think Nikki was aware. She is new here and still getting the hang of it I suspect. And Tanuki only posted to point out to her that the area is really meant for discussion after the book is out. I also posted because someone else had also inquired about it.
