Introductions

Looking at the welcoming new people forum I saw that quite a lot of new people just register and never even post. This renders the threads welcoming them pointless, which is a shame. In many other forums new members actually start their own profile threads where they tell other members about themselves then they get welcomed. Just an idea.

but...um...the idea of the welcoming forum was to welcome the new member in and hopefully encourage them to post.....its nice when people do reply and even better when people start their own threads but i dont feel like im doing my job unless i have welcomed every member...i dont think you would ever manage to get me to stop welcoming everyone the minute i notice they joined whether they have posted or not.

some people say its nice to join and then discover there is already a welcome thread for you before you have even posted....

you have a point there... it is indeed nice to join and find you are being welcomed :)

Maybe you can suggest or ask the new people, in your welcome-topics Sonkem, if they want to write something about themselves, why they joined, what they like about HP?

Maybe new members could say whether they are male or female. I can never tell usually.

I dont thinks its a good idea (profiles for new members) Just speaking of myself here - I would never post anything about myself in a random Forum. I think most of the people r not comfortable spreading info about themselves just anywhere.....

And if new member will want to talk about themselves more - they have a great opportunity to do so while writing a responce to a welcome message.

yeah, i agree with Mint....knowing what im like compared to my sister i think that only new members who frequent other forums would ever post an introduction, i dont see anybody who is a first time forum member ever doing that....and with it being a forum about a series of books we do get alot of people who are new to forums and so on....i mean, if we make welcome threads they have a place to introduce themselves if they want to....

I feel kinda guilty reading when I read this because I spose I got a welcome thread but I never even noticed that forum so I feel like I was really anti-social, but I should imagine it is nice to be welcomed right away cos you can sorta feel lost when you first join.
