A place for members to enjoy re-reading the Harry Potter series. New readers of the books can equally discuss the series bit by bit here too (designed to avoid spoilers).
The chapter starts out with Hagrid and Harry setting out for London. They take the only form of transport (the row boat) away from the Dursleys (which I am so pleased to see.. wonder how they got home...)
Hagrid is thrilled by all the things that Muggles use... and he can't understand why people are staring at him. Harry can't imagine where they could buy a wand in all of London...
Wow... and then they find it. and the people he meets... where do I begin?
Which shop would you love to spend the most time in in Diagon Alley? I reckon I would love to check out the bookshop the most..
Probably Magical Menagerie or the Flourish & Blotts. I absolutely love animals and would love to meet all those magical ones. I'd also love to read all the books about magic.
yes! Ollivanders! I wonder what could be done so you could have a second visit, I mean, once u've got a wand u don't have to go back.. maybe he has some follow up accessory products? hee hee!
No you're right- Honeydukes is "elsewhere" (spoiler-free answer). The Ice-Cream Parlour is in Diagon Alley though, seeing as Hagrid buys them both an ice-cream.
Personally I'd live in Flourish and Blotts, and work in Ollivanders'- there's something more to his job than just making and selling wands, I'm sure.
Yes, I thought that was right. The name of that particular shop appears in later books. I could spend every day in Diagon Alley, so much to do, so much to enjoy!
STay tuned for Chapter 6... and if u have any discussion topics u'd like to post about for each chapter, please do! my discussion topics don't have to be the only one.. just post it in the right chapter is all I ask.

I'm sort of confused...so in this chapter, didn't Harry shake hands with Quirrel? Why didn't he crumble? My friend said he was wearing gloves, but i re-read the chapter and it never said he did...
Wow, nice reasoning Silver Bunny. I do believe Harry should've at least experienced some pain while shaking hands because when Quirrel glanced at Harry at the start of Term Feast, and Harry nearly fell to the floor. I never recall Quirell wearing gloves, but I think he does it the movie. Not sure, might have to check that one
If I remember correctly, Voldemort was not transplanted into Quirrel's head until after he failed to take the stone from Gringotts. The proffesor only crumbled at the end because Voldemort "felt the love" just a bit to much. Harry shook hands with Quirrel before he went to Gringotts, therefore Voldemort was not yet sharing his body.
