Chapter 6 - The Journey from Platform nine and three quarter

Postby Ms. Elsewhere » Sunday 13 July 2008 5:45:24am

Much like Harry having to wait to go to Hogwarts and leave the Dursleys..... thanks for your patience on waiting for the next installment of bookclub!

Chapter 6 in the Philosopher's/Socerers Stone (please forgive my terrible spelling!)

Ok, so let's see, what to discuss!

Well, how COOL was it, the way they enter the platform? Has anyone gone to Kings Cross station and tried it? I would have, but they've put a big lot of carts in the way. (they must laugh their heads off at ppl coming there)

And meeting the Weasleys for the first time... how cool! The beginning of a beautiful friendship. And the rest of the clan too!

So.. what do I want to ask.. to discuss...

What would be your perfect lunch? Certainly not roast beef sandwiches?

If it were YOU, would u try out some spells before you came?

And.... ask some questions too.. the idea of this thread is to get a discussion going! so .... fire away, want to knw what ppl thought of the chapter.

Of course, I love love love it! The beginning of Harry's trip into the wizard world!

I've been wanting to try and get onto Platform 9 3/4, but I've never been to England. I would totally try if I ever went there, preferably with a cart with a trunk and bird cage on it...

Ah, the Weasleys! I loved Fred & George in that scene with the whole Hogwarts toilet seat thing. I have told Fawkes that we will bring her back a Hogwarts toilet seat when we go to LeakyCon, because that will be like Ginny not being able to go to Hogwarts.

I'm sure I would have eaten many Chocolate Frogs and not sandwiches on my journey to Hogwarts! Although I'm really not sure it's such a good idea to get all those kids sugar high right before school... Kind of makes me feel bad for the teachers.

Hahah! so true, the cart doesn't seem to have anything that's all together healthy, doees it?

What's LeakyCon? Is it that HP conference coming up! Gosh I wish I was involved in creating HP merchandise! Weasley prank items would be top sellers in my opinion. Oh, we get to enjoy these guys and their antics sooooo much in these books. Thank you so much JK! Did anyone ever have ppl like that in their school? A group or a couple of ppl who just made everyone laugh and played pranks and were/are just loved by all?

I remember my Fred and George Weasleys fondly... they make school so tolerable and fun! (Unless u're like Hermione who's a stickler for the rules.. hmmmm)

Yeah, LeakyCon's the HP conference that's in Boston, MA next May. :D

I had plenty of Fred & George types in my class at school. Of course, most of them took pranking a bit too far and wound up totally trashing some cars that belonged to seniors when we were juniors... But there were some who kept it harmless.

Oh, we had a group of pranksters. They called themselves the Back Row Army- no prizes for guessing where they sat in each different lesson- and were led by the infamous charming rogue that is Captain Ed.

Apparently they were hilarious. I was never around to see whatever it was they did, I was too busy trying to work and ignore the backhand comments of the rest of them. But they have been likened to the Marauder's, just in trouble less.

While there isn't the HP platform at King's Cross, or St Pancras seeing as that was where JK meant as she was writing, there is a sign for Platform 9 3/4 there- my Physics teacher has a pic of himself underneath it.

As for lunch...a flask of tea; a cheese, chicken and ketchup sandwich; a few mini sausage rolls and pork pies, and a slice of chocolate cake. That's be me set!

The main joker is my friend.. No one plays pranks in my school, their is just so much people to annoy we cannot be bothered pranking ! ..

Although.. The principal came into our classroom and yelled at the girls, someone had wet heaps of rolls of toilet paper and thrown them along the walls and apprently someone wrote stuff on the mirror. So the principal got all of the girls to write what was written on the mirror and she found someone's handwriting that matched the one on the mirror.
It's like CSI !!

Lol! That's so clever, must remember that trick for when I become a teacher!

Hmm... I forgot to say who my pransters were and what they did. We had 'stink bombs' in our school, where someone would set one off and the whole hall way would smell like rotten eggs for a few hours. PPl would soap or shaving cream ppl's locks to their lockers......

eek gotta go.. Mini Riley is ticked off! will write more next time!

Well, since I go to high-school, the most obvious answer would be, everyone! Almost the whole school pulls pranks and only few are sought out and 'defused'.
There was a guy, let's call him.. Larry. So Larry was walking down the hall and walked into the principals office. Mrs.Chair ( Fake name ) asked what was wrong and Larry said his lock on his locker was stuck. And so, Mrs.Chair handed him a pair of bolt cutters. Mrs.Chair was soon to find out never to trust a child with bolt cutters.
So Larry walked down the hall during classes and few kids roamed the halls, an those who did were either smoking or just plain 'punks'. He cut the lock of every locker in that hall and swapped peoples; Phones, wallets, books, jewellery and more. Took none of it but just simply 'exchanged' it with others.
So, of course the kids looked at their bellongings and a murmer crossed the hall. All of a sudden, a guy yells out, "My wallet has 20 dollars in it!'' and then, the whole hall ( hard to say ) began yelling and swapping again.
Just an innocent prank and everybody got their stuff back and Larry served an after school detention.
No harm done.. right ?
So, as you see, Larry was very smart and if your wondering, Larry is me.

That is really creative, wanderful! At my high school, they never let us have the bolt cutters to deal with our lockers. They'd have the janitors do it.

This year (youknowwho told me about this since I'm no longer in high school) for the senior prank, one of the seniors brought a keg to the parking lot after school. Now I thought this was pretty funny, but also rather stupid since they did it on school property. They were bound to get caught and get in huge trouble, not only from the school but from the police as well. A few days later, youknowwho tells me that he found out that there wasn't real beer in the keg. It was root beer.

Another time, someone from a rival district snuck over to the school and changed these cement blocks we used to have on the grounds. Our school mascot is the Spartan and these cement blocks spelled out 'Spartans'. Well, the rival district changed the blocks around to spell out 'Fartans'.

That is a very funny and clever prank! What a way to make ppl sort themselves out! I mean, really, how would ppl act in a true emergency when they are alll so hung up in their cliches and groups and so on? Would they get along and sort it out? or would there be mad chaos and violence? And in a high school? I shudder to think...lol

Hmm....

The idea of platform nine and three quarter inspired me to invent a way to enter the Ministry of Magic building (not floo powder, not the visitor's entrance), but the way some staffs enter by if they hate apparation or floo powder.

well, the Ministry's Cars also play a part. Since there are cars, there must be a staff carpark or something.
maybe I should post my fanfic soon, the part where it involves the special entrance
