Chapter 4: The keeper of the keys

Postby Ms. Elsewhere » Saturday 3 May 2008 1:21:31pm

Yay! A lot happens in this chapter!

It's Harry's 11th birthday
Harry meets Hagrid (with his beetle like eyes, wirey hair, infinate pockets and pink, magical umbrella)
Harry gets food and a sticky, chocolate cake from Hagrid
Harry finds out how his parents really died and how the Dursleys wanted to 'stamp out' the magic in him
Harry learns about Voldemort
Harry finds out he's a wizard.. and a famous one at that.
Harry recieves his letter from Hogwarts
Dudley gets a pigs tail when Hagrid gets mad

So let's see, what can we discuss? I was thinking, movie comparison.

WHY DOES HAGRID GET PORTRAYED AS 'DUMB' IN THE MOVIE?
In the book, the cake is a sticky chocolate cake with "Happy Birthday Harry" written on it. but in the movie it says "Happee Birthday Harry" in green on a pink iced cake. Does this suggest that Hagrid can't spell? Just because he got expelled doesn't mean he can't write!

WAS PENTUNIA RESENTFUL OF HER SISTER AND NOW OF HARRY?
Hmmm. and Petunia, was she ever recentful of her sister! I reckon she felt the need to compete with her ever since she found out she was a witch. She got married too, and had a child at the same time. And to make things even more horrible, she resented Harry too and treated him cruelly. Looking back at chapter 3, she deep down knew that Hogwarts would never stop once they decided Harry was to go there. But also.. I think she realised he was always going to be a wizard, and lived every day with that knowledge bottled up ready to explode like coke shaken up. (with a mentos dropped in... BOOM!)

IF YOU COULD HAVE HAGRIDS COAT, WHAT WOULD YOU STORE IN IT?
It seems that Hagrid has a coat much like the bag Mary Poppins carries around with her - bottomless pockets! I wonder if it feels heavy...What would u keep in there? I would keep;
Snacks
Books
Ipod
Camera
Laptop
Drinks in a cooler bag
to name a few...

Remember to keep to the topic of this chapter only in here... no spoilers allowed. ( I know there are so many theories out there about the things that happen in this chapter... xx thanks!)

looking forward to your responses! :)

*puts spell on self so i won't post spoilers* so hard....... to resist! *gasps and slaps duct-tap across mouth* much better.

i think that they might've made hagrid seem dumb so they can give other people more incentive to insult him. they also really don't mention his expulsion much (do they?) so they might be trying to hint at his expulsion. i really don't think they should've done that, i mean its not like spelling is a state of the art, advanced skill that you don't learn until after your 3rd year!

hargrid's coat....... books books books, food, ipod if i had one to put in, extra pair of socks (can't hurt), dance shoes, string bass and bow (and resin and music), random rocks and knicknacks, water........

I don't like how they spelled 'Happy' wrong on the cake in the movie. I don't know why they did it, but I don't like it.

Hagird's coat- well, I'd only be able to keep all this stuff in it if it was charmed to be feather-light.

-laptop
-mp3 player
-cell phone
-wallet
-keys
-digital camera
-all 7 HP books
-a bunch of other books
-Nintendo DS with all the games I've got for it
-my Gameboy Color (so I can play CoS, which doesn't play on my DS)
-chocolate
-gum, preferably Orbit Maui Melon Mint

wow..

This is actually a really good way to work out what ppl do/like by what they would carry around in their coat!

There is also an indication that Hagrid likes "something stronger" if they had some.

Here's another question.... when you're at school.. even in a boarding school, school camp or anywhere away from home where your chaparone's are the teachers, are they allowed to drink alcohol at all? I know at Girl Guide Camps I've been on I was shocked to discover that the leaders DO have a few wines when the kiddies have gone to bed!!! I don't know about school camps though.... what is your opinion? Maybe, only on the weekends, and designate an emergency person who has to stay sober? (for a boarding school) and at camp.. no way in my opinion....

Well I went to Somers Camp...

It was where heaps of other schools pick 10 children to go to a camp 3 hours away. It's really cool.

And I remember 1 night I was awake with some other boys to find my cabin leader sitting on the basketball court singing with another teacher with pure vodka bottles surrounding them.

When my mum found out she went nuts at the camp associates..

lol!

Which goes to show... save the "something stronger" for times when you're not responsible for students!!!

(I mean, just because everyone is asleep, doesn't mean there won't be an emergency in the middle of the night...)
