The Gryffindors had always held closed tryouts. . . well... there wasn't any rule about not being able to enter the tryouts if you weren't of the Gryffindor house, but the biggest players on the team stopped you if you looked suspicous. Remmy had been in the stadium before the Gryffindors arrived, watching over the field she had once dreamed of playing on. Now that it was a reality, in all honesty, she didn't fancy being confined to such a juvenille quarters. Her seeking abilities were above average and she hoped that one day a por team would see her and pick her up. Thankfully, scouts were always hiding in the games.
As the Gryffindors filed in, no one said a word to her. No one really noticed her...
Remmy sat by and watched her competition. There was a lot of talent in the bunch, and you could tell who had been there before. The new beater wasn't the best, but for a fourth year who had never tried out before, he had some skills.
The girl they picked for seeker, Rowena, was a little shaky to start with. You could see the weakness in her turns, but only if you were an experienced player, and actually analyzing her flying ability, not just watching for flaws. It was clear that Rowena did not see this in herself, and neither did Misty.
The quaffle handling was ok, but it's hard to find good chasers. Needless to say, the Gryffindors were apparently lowering their standards a bit.
The keepers did very well, but in Remmy's mind, just one stood out. Luckily, it wasn't the one that Misty picked. Misty's qualifications for team captain were basically her prefect status and popular girl clique.
She chose not on talent, but on who was best for the team's image. Instead of picking the hopefuls that really had something, just as long as they worked with it... Misty chose the people who were 'ok', and would only amount to 'ok'.
The exception to this was Rowena. But a careful examination of the new seeker's abilities would allow for her strengths and weaknesses to show. The gryffindors had two games before they played Ravenclaw, so careful watch was a definite possibility.
Remmy stayed in the stadium until everyone had left but the team. Practice for the Gryffindors was about to begin, but it was open field, so no one could kick her out as long as she didn't interfere with the players.
She wondered to herself what Dinas thought of the new team. HE had been watching intently for a good while.
