"Alright." Remmy's thoughts seemed elsewhere.
"Can I cam too, Rem?" it was Keshia.
"Erhm... I uh.. I dont think so... I really shouldn't... I just don't think it's a good idea..."
Remmy turned to her father and placed a hand firmly around his. She could've sworn she felt him give a slight squeeze back. It was only wishful thinking.
With a loud snap, Remmy apparated with her father and an unexpected Keisha into her living room.
She felt Keisha grab on at the last minute, and had to fight to make all of them through.
"Didn't I tell you NO?!" Remmy said as she placed her father's body on the couch, "You almost got yourself lost. You can't apparate yet, can you??
Keisha shook her head.
"I didn't think so. What would happen if you hadn't held on? What would've happened if I couldn't pull us all through?"
Remmy surveyed her surroundings.
She walked down the hall and beckoned Keisha to follow. She stopped in front of a white painted door and turned to Keshia.
"I don't want you feeling sorry for me, and I don't want you saying a word to Slasher or Stan or anyone you got it?" Remmy's voice was stern and almost heartless.
"Ok..." keisha said, feeling bad that she had grabbed Remmy's arm.
Remmy opened the door. Inside, the room's walls were painted with a bright mural of a sunset. There was a tall oak dresser next to a smaller nighstand. In the middle of the room, there was a large white bed. In it lay a woman. She pale in the face and had darker cirles around her eyes than Keshia had ever seen on anyone before.
"My mom lost it when my sister died. She had a heart attack and then she let herself go, and now she hardly ever leaves this room. I take care of her, but when I'm away at school the neighbors keep her healthy. She's asleep now... I won't wake her before we leave."
Remmy saw Keisha looking at the walls "My sister painted this. All of it. The summer bfeore she died... she did it for my mom."
Remmy left the room and walked a bit further down the hall. She opened another door down the hall and grabbed a bag. Closing the the door again, she came back up the hall. Across from the room where Keshia still stood, she opened yet another door. She walked in and over to a dresser. She opened the very top drawer and placed in the bag two sets of clothes. She closed the drawer and opened the very bottom one. It was filled with photographs. She pulled out the only one in a frame and carefully ran her finger around its edges. Biting her lip, she placed that in the bag as well.
The rest of the bag she filled with galleons as well as muggle money, another wand, a box of matches, a few candles, some rope, and a small box with a picture of a ten and four sleeping bags on it. To the front, she strapped a tin can and bowl.
She put the pack on to test its weight. "Light as a feather" she thought.
Keisha was standing next to her now.
Remmy pulled out a piece of pink flowered stationary and a purple pen. She wrote a note to her mother and sealed it in a matching envelope. On the front, she wrote "Mom"
She walked into her mother's room and sat the note on her bedside table. Pulling the sheets up a bit further, she kissed her mother's forehead and left the room, closing the door on the way out.
"Ready?" she asked Keisha
