You are correct, Blaise . . . it was from "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" . . . I left out some of the title! Good on you for spotting that, and I'm glad you enjoyed it, too (another great quote I liked was, "Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink.").

I think Harry dying in the series doesn't seem to fit. Especially since everything is seen through his eyes. No doubt he'll experience loss and suffering, as I mentioned, but I don't think he'll die.

Then again, who knows? I'm not J.K. Rowling. In some ways, with Harry living through it all, it'll be a tough life, full of a lot of memories of those who will be gone, but I suppose part of Harry's charm to me is the kind of person he is despite heartbreak, loss, and a tough childhood. He could so easily have let that turn him bad, and felt very justified in it, but he hasn't and most likely won't. I remember how uncomfortable he felt when 'compared' to Slytherin Tom Riddle, but Dumbledore said it best when he told Harry, "It is our choices rather than our abilities that make us who we are." I predict a sad, yet inspired ending to J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. :)

I voted yes; I'm sure Harry will die, as any hero in any book or any movie that really is going to be inmortalized (imgine Armageddon with Bruce Willis not dying?) Actually that was my only objection in LOTR, nobody died, so much adventures and really no one dies?, I don't think so.

But I think that the last paragraph will be; "and when (here goes the name of Harry's love) child was born, he had in his forehead a scar"

As much as I love the HP series I had to say yes. So far all Harry as done has been one lucky son of a gun. His ability to get out of jams is always so coincidentally lucky. When he faces Quirrel in book one it just so happens he can't be touched. Come on, can't be touched. Next he faces Riddle and he just happens to pull out a sword to kill a sixty foot basilisk and then gets torn from the grips of a quick death by pheonix tears. On and on young Potters adventures go and it just seems to me as so much luck. Maybe J.K. will realize and finally have him take on his foes with pure uninterupted individual ability. No ghosts coming from wands to aid him, no pheonix tears, nothing. Alteast thats what I hope. No more of this good always triumphs by some lucky coincidence and evil looses because, well, evil must. Let's have a fair fight. Also I read in an interview that J.K. had not intentionally wrote the HP series as a kids book, they just ended up becoming kids books.

Were this some classic novel, I'd probably be more inclined to accept the possibility of Harry dying at the end, but the fact that HP has so many children reading it, I just dont think that she willdo that to them... I know that the boks are getting darker, and people are dying, but the good guy dying int he end is just a bit too much I think!

Yeah, that's a good point. Were this a Shakespearean tragedy, then yes, I'd say without reservation that Harry would be dead (and so would the majrity of main characters, for that matter.) However, so many, many children idolize Harry. It would be a horrid let-down if he were to die at the end! Think of the amount of manic-depressive children there'd be!

Harry won't die!!!
true, Harry is lucky. but, there has to be ryme or reason to his luck! and it's not as if he's just some bumbling little boy who stumbles on lots of bad situations and just "happens" to get out of them. you have to admit, he has shown alot of bravery in the things he's done. without his bravery, his "luck" would have done nothing. so, i think Harry is very capable of saving himself.
Harry is the hero of the story: in many other stories and legends the hero does die. but would JK really want to kill off the guy who has had so much luck combined with bravery to escape death COUNTLESS times? she had a reason for him living the first time Voldemort went after him. why should she kill him only 17 years later?
and then, like Holly Golightly said, too many children read these books. it doesn't seem plausible to me that JK would kill off their hero. I just have a very strong feeling (and stronger pleading hope!) that Harry will live a good life after Hogwarts, accomplish many things, and overcome many trials. at least i think and hope so

I don't like the idea; that would be too much of a kids story.

i cant seem to make up my mind on it all!
i think that it may be a bit of an anti-climax if harry goes thro his 7 years at hogwarts and then dies at the end it all seems a bit of a waste!
but at the same time for the sake of realism, mayb he should die? i think it all depends on who JK's target audience is, i mean if it is aimed at younger kids then harry will live, but if they're older then mayb he wont!

 to you people who want Harry to die at the end!!!

If I wanted realism, I would watch one of those real life movies, where everyoen always dies at the end!!! :nasty grin:

I like happy endings damn it!!! The good guy aways wins, and gets the chick!!! That's the way it works people!!!

*Hrmm, please don't take this too seriously people, I just always have this agrument with a friend, on the predictable ends of movies!!! I just like happy endings, and am certaily not trying to bag out anyone else's opinion, okies! Just a bit o fun! ;) *

Harry Dies

Postby Sam Riddle » Friday 20 June 2003 7:48:08pm

In the interview last night, Jeremy Paxman said "Are you going to write about Harry after book 7?" and she said "How do you know he will still be alive?" :(

Im telling you people, he will die together with Voldie.
They will battle and battle and then he will be like "No, Voldie I will not let you live, I will sacrifice myself for the good of this world!"

Uhhh, it's getting really hard to post here, after reading OOTP... I dont' want to spoil anything for anyone *because I would be annoyed if someone poiled it for me* but still...

And you dont' want to write anything incase people think that it might be written with the knowledge of what is to come... even if it's not... :(
