i think 8 books would kinda be dragging out the series. I wonder if JK made 7 books for the 7 magical numbers or if it is just a coincidence.

Hmm, I really do think very strongly that she made 7 because of the years at Hogwarts. I know you may all read into it a lot, and ocme up with some very interesting suggestions, but often I do just roll my eyes... It always has to be a complicated answer, doesn't it?
Maybr you're right with it, maybe you aren't. Either way, I'm sure JKR gets a few chuckles reading some of these ideas.

I think she thought up "seven" and then based the number of years at Hogwarts as seven, and then made up seven as being the luckiest number and that seventeen would be the age, they came of age.

You seriously think that she made up the number of years at Hogwarts? No possiblity of it just being the number of years at practically every school?

Over in England we have 5 years at school, then you go to college (optional) for 2 years and then after that (if you decide) you can go onto university. Some schools have colleges attached but a lot don't. JKR herself may have gone to a school/college to do all her pre-university education so yeah I suppose so.

I thought I had read somewhere that it was customary in the UK to have 7 years of school similar to the 7 years at Hogwarts...I could be wrong, but I vaguely recall hearing that somewhere. This wouldn't be a logical notion for those of us in the US because many schools go k-5 then a new school for 6-8 then high school is 9-12.

In most of Britain, you go to primary school from reception-year 6, secondary from year7-11, sixth form/college for 2 years (optional), then university for degrees/Masters/PhD's...
But for education from 11 years of age, there are 5 compulsory years and 2 optional- which a lot of people choose to take.

I can't remember where the thread is where everyone mentioned 07/07/07 as a possible date for release but I found this one here so thought I'd post here instead.

I've had second thoughts about this date as a potential release date - she might think it disrespectful to the London Bomb victims. I dunno what do you think?

Which come to think of it, sounds like the 5 years at Hogwarts for OWLS, followed by the 2 extra's you can do for NEWTS. (Hope my memory worked there :) )

Quite true. Maybe that's why the 7 years at Hogwarts...maybe it's just the significance of the number 7, I don't know. Someone should just ask her, that'd be the easiest thing- if we could and get an answer before Christmas...

The fifth film will be released around the same time. It's current release date is July 13th 2007.

??? :???:

Am well confused by your last post HG. What do you mean by two years? I'm guessing you probably didn't see the date of the post? Yes it was nearly two years since HBP came out (can you believe it!) but hopefully it's only a matter of months to go now.
