Do you people like this stuff because you truly enjoy them or simply because they're popular and all your friends like them?

For me I used to listen to these pop songs simply because they’re popular, but one day I discovered that I don’t like this stuff at all. Today I probably like less than 1% of anything that makes it into the charts.

Now days I like listening to film scores especially those by John Williams. Eg: Star Wars themes and even Harry Potter. More recently I found myself enjoying Japanese pop songs especially those from Squaresoft/-Enix video games. I like video game themes too.

We have the full set of the LOTR soundtracks. I love the second one The Two Towers the best overall because the Music of Rohan was so wonderfully expansive.
But my favorite piece off all of them is Gollums song from The Return of the King. I am not sure who sings it the disc is in the car but it is stated on one of the discs in an interview found on the extended version of the film. She is Indian and has a haunting voice that brings out the truly mornful aspect of Smegol's existance.

Sorry I am rambling.

I don't usually discuss my taste in music with my friends, because their taste in music is so different to mine. I like all different types of music, apart from most of the top 40 stuff, and only because if something is played often enough it usually loses it's appeal to me, or that it sounds so manufactured that i dont know how it's called music.

I grew up in a house with very eclectic musical tastes (my father being a radio presenter, and now a promotions manager). I have great appreciation of all different styles of music. I guess I used to listen to all the popular stuff just because it was popular, but i followed my older sister's tastes more than anyone else. Now i follow my own ears

i don't like any"native"(Bulgarian)music because it just doesn't have it's own style.all those rappers and rockers and stuff just copy some other band's style.

But i like to listen to chillout music at times-my personal favourite is Orinoko Flow by Enya

and one more thing-the people who listen to Metallica, LP, The Offspring why do you like that sort of music?

Placebo. Black Market Music album, I guess. That's a wonderful song, I love it, as most of their songs.
