Postby werebane » Tuesday 24 September 2002 1:19:39am

Riddle was in slytherin right? i know hes slytherins heir but how can he be in slytherin, i mean he says hes a half-blood and slytherin only likes pure-bloods. Can someone sort this out for me?

True. I thought that half and half were okay, but not mudbloods.

i would have thought that the fact he was slytherin's heir and therefore has slytherins blood would override the small fact that his father was a muggle.....

cos i mean it would be daft if someone who was plainly decended from slytherin was sorted into gryffindor or whatever and not slytherin whether he had some muggle blood or not.....

That's a good point. If he were Slytherins heir, you'd think the hat would know.

Hey, who's to say the Sorting Hat DIDN'T know? It doesn't tell everyone everything. It probably did.

I think that The Slytherin's wouldn't call another Slytherin a mudblood, but they wouldn't (or, most of them, since there wasn't a wizard or witch who went bad who WASN'T in Slytherin) hesitiate to calla Hufflepuff or a Ravenclaw or a Gryffindor a mudblood.

So, they probably overlooked that, partly because he was a Slytherin. I mean--Slytherin's so with Slytherin's--they vouch for one another, just like a Gryffindor would for a Gryffindor.

That's the only explanation I can think of.

Yes, but wouldn't it just be like J.K. Rowling to throw good ol' Tom Riddle into a different house than Slytherin? There has been some speculation that he could have been in Gryffindor...but that'd be too weird.

And like Luna said, there wasn't a witch or wizard who went bad that wasn't in Slytherin, so it's pretty safe to say that Voldie was a Slythie.

BUT, what about James Potter and Sirius Black and Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigew? Didn't Wormtail go bad? So, he was most likely a Slytherin, if what Ron told Harry is true. And also, wouldn't it make sense for the other three to be in seperated houses, too? Like James in Gryffindor, Remus is Ravenclaw, and Sirius in Hufflepuff? The personalities suit to the houses, really.

Any other views out there? (I love debating this stuff! :) )

Oh I dunno--I think that COULD be true, but Sirius and Remus seem to be the Gryffindor type to me. I can see Peter being in either Hufflepuff or Slytherin, myself.

But then, what Ron said to Harry wouldn't work, would it? That is, if Peter was in Hufflepuff. Of course he could be a Gryffindor too--look at Neville Longbottom and Colin Creevey.

Hmmm....

u know...u cant go by what ron (movie)/hagrid (book) said about there not being a witch or wizard who went bad who wasnt in slytherin...thats just exagerated rumour.... i mean....what happens if a beauxbaton wizard goes bad.....he cant be from slytherin...slytherin is hogwarts.....and ur not telling me that none of the durmstrang or beauxbaton wizards have ever gone bad......

i think what ron/hagrid says is just and exagerated rumour which is probly almost always true but ur bound to get the odd weird person (such as wormtail) who will do it differently.....

i mean...from the way they talk about them in the book it sounds like they did absoloutly everything together.....so that would suggest theyd have to be in the same house otherwise how would they manage it....

it says sirius and james were inseperable....if they were in different houses theyd get separated.....how many of the students now have gangs that span houses?? i dont think there r any...not of best friends like those four, i think theve got to be all in the same house.....and id say that house is most likely to be gryffindor from the character of sirius and james....

actually....hagrid says in the first book that voldemort was a slytherin....and hagrid was at school with voldemort so he should know.....
its just after harry tried on his robes in madam malkins if u wanna check....

U know not only Sytherins turn bad. Look in the Goblet of Fire chapter called The Triwizard Tournaments it says:

"Harry wondered whether Baddock knew that Slytherin house had turned out more Dark witches and wizards than any other."

So that means the other houses can turn out Dark wizards too.

*Claps hands* Yay, thank you Snuffles! I was thinking wrong and was too lazy to go and get my Goblet, so you cleared it up.

Nothin' like a good old check in the pages and a quote, eh?

I thought later, it would be strange if all wizards and witches who ever turned bad were in Slytherin--I mean, Peter Pettigrew, a Slytherin? It wasn't working for me. He seems to really fit in the Hufflepuff category to me. Heck, he could even be a Gryffindor--like I said before, look at Neville and Colin.

I dunno about anyone else. ;)
