Hmm ... I have a lot. Elizabth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice (like our Lizzy here!) bacause of her intelligence and manner -- but because she's not perfect either. Lord Henry from Picture of Dorian Grey because of all his nonesnse -- I loved all the parts with him in! He had such absurd yet intriguing ideas. Death from the Discworld series because he tries so hard to understand humans. Polgara and Beldin from Belgariad & Mallorean. Pogara because she's a very powerful female character but also because she's not perfect. Beldin because he's just so intelligent -- not to mention fun! Lots of the other characters in those books are brilliant as well. such as Silk and Belgarath. Sara Crewe from the Little Princess because she's so imaginative and tries so hard to be polite. Beth from Little Women because she's such a tragic figure ... Sensitive and thoughtful. Those who God loves go first ...

mine is Tay Triffenwyd (i wouldn't be surprised if i spelt that second name wrong).....i have been asked this question ebfore and i spent weeks considering it but i always come back to him...he is a druid in The First King of Shannara by Terry Brooks

he is an elf....and he is sent to get this elfstone from a fortress in some mountains before the Warlock Lord can get it...only trouble is, he gets the magic, escaped the fortress only to find that he is blocked by the minions of the Warlock Lord.....and he knows exactly what the elfstone would do to him but still uses it to save the rest of the company and dies in the process...and i always find it so upsetting when i read that part of the book...he is the only character to get that type of response from me too....whenever i read that book i always wish for him to do something different but he never does...he always kills himself to save everyone else :(

Oh! Now I remember who my favorite character is. Actually, it's characters. They're both from Beth Hilgartner's A Murder for Her Majesty, which is an excellent book. I like Alice Tuckfield (a.k.a Pup) for her spunk, and Master Hugh Kenton just because he's who he is.

You MUST read that book!!!!!! It is sooooo good!! It's actually meant for younger readers, I think, but it's pretty good for all ages!

oooo I have so many! I'll give you a few:

I've always loved Sam from LotR because he's so loyal to Frodo and humble.

Merlin (the first wise old wizard!) from the same series I got my name from. Except Merlin isn't a wise old wizard in that book, it tells about his youth. and, from the same books, KING ARTHUR! love that guy  only in those books is King Arthur my favorite, though.

And Harry :D :)

D’Artagnan from the Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas is my favorite character of all time. I love him to death! He's so chivalrous (sp?) and courageous and fool hearted and kindafast to take action, and he's just so great! Reading about him makes me laugh! And now thinking about him is making me laugh, hehe

For me its split between Scarlett O'Haro (Gone with the Wind) and Bilbo Baggins (The Hobbit). Scarlett is just a strong character that can withstand anything and never gives in to defeat. And then there's Bilbo who I'm not even sure why I like so much. I'm just one of the few people who liked the Hobbit better then LOTR.

hmmm...literary characters...

Daisy from The Great Gatsby she is not the best personality in the story, and I don't like the way she treats Gatsby, yet her character is SO well written, and full of imagery...I mean you can almost see her gauzy white dresses and laughter full of jingly gold coins...

Poor Marvin Redpost from the little kiddie book, Marvin Redpost Picks His Nose! He really shows how going against the crowd can pay off! "Sometimes a kleenex just doesn't cut it!"

Winston Smith from 1984. This is the most recent lit book I have read for school, and I just admire some of the ideals Winston comes up with, and the things he endures.

Caddie Woodlawn is also another favorite of mine...I always wanted to live some of her adventures...and her love for the dairy state is so beautiful (yes, I know it sounds corny, but if you read the book it is really emotional) and her patrotisim during a rocky time (the Civil War) is awesome...and the gessure she makes with the indian kids at school is just heart warming...*tears*

Atticus Finch and his daughter, Scout from To Kill a Mocking Bird is my all time favorite...just read the book and you will see!

holy cow! caddie woodlawn is also one of my favorite books :) my favorite part is when she goes all the way to warn the indians, she's so brave! :)

hmm, my fav. lit character? probably anne of green gables :) those are my favorite books, and she is so kind and smart and patient (or at least when she grows up). she reminds me a bit of myself when she's a kid, when she has such a temper and is so headstrong. hehe
