You're thinking of PSone. PSX was the prototype name for the original PS. Now they're calling their new machine PSX which has PS2 capabilities plus DVD recording.

Yes, but that's the premium you pay to get one at the start, they drop considerably after a few weeks and become far more reasonable.

I'm playing Dark Chronicle (Dark Cloud 2 for US) on PS2 at the moment.
Great RPG. If you liked Kingdom Hearts you'd like this.

What if I loved Kingdom Hearts, but hated Dark Cloud (1) ??

:???:

What i really didnt like about Dark Cloud was that there was almost no interaction with people. I mean u had to wait untill u find the "house block" to even talk to 1 person and they didnt have much to say. And then each world was the same thing over and over...... AND the fact that u had to switch characters for them to gain any experience was so annying. Cause I kept using 2 characters that I liked, and when the dungeon made me use others - I died constantly.

I made it to the desert land....I forgot what it was called.... I got all of the characters except for the last one (according to the manual)

I've never played Dark Cloud so I wouldn't know how much better the sequel is.
I can say that there is plenty of charater switching involved and sometimes you can only use one.
I think the interaction is pretty good in this one.
The dungeons are a bit repetitive but there's plenty to do.

Sony will offer its PSX PlayStation-cum-personal video recorder for under $800, the consumer electronics giant said yesterday.
Two models will ship later this year in Japan, one with a 160GB hard drive, the other with 250GB of hard disk storage - the latter enough to hold 13 and a half days' worth of TV programming, and both larger than the 120GB capacity originally planned for the machine. As yet Sony has not said which of these will be offered to overseas markets - or when.

The Japanese models - dubbed the DESR-5000 and DESR-7000, respectively - will be priced at a US equivalent of $750 and $907. In addition to TiVO-style features, the machines contain PlayStation 2, which also provides PlayStation 1 compatibility.
Programmes recorded on the hard drive can be transferred to DVD using the machines' built in DVD-R/RW drive. A DVD+RW version will be coming further down the line, Sony said. Current machines also provide a Memory Stick slot and a USB port for peripherals.
The PSX is the first Sony system to be based on the company's home grown 90nm EE+GS@90nm processor, which combines the PS2's Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesiser chips on a single die. Sony is increasingly trying to pull chip development in-house, using its own silicon to drive all future hardware products.

well...since PS3 is said to be released in 2006...what do you guys think?

$750?! hehe suuuuure I'll buy it.

THat is crazey!!!

And what did it meant that DVD-RW will come down the line? It doesn't have it yet?? And how huge will this box be?

I dont know - I think Im just gonna sit and wait for PS-III to come. Plus, its not like PSX is gonna have any exclusive games on it....its all for the people who want to record TV shows on DVDs - which I for sure would like to have but not for that price.

Its like computers - u can never invest in a top of the line computer because in 2-3 years its not worth that money anymore.
