it is not quite a horror story but more like a cat and mouse chase
two main characters - Light (the teenager who got the death note) and L (the famous detective whose identity is never known to the world)

Light is an extremely intelligent kid. He plans the killings carefully and invades the police. His father is the head of the detective department by the way...haha
There are many rules regarding the way to use the Death Note
Eg.
The image of the person and the real name is required for the death to be effective. Therefore, people having the same name will not be affected.

The person whose name is recorded in the death note will die of cardiac arrest within 40 sec if the method and time of death isn't specified.

And the most interesting so far...
The eyes of the god of death can be traded with half of the death note owner's remaining life. The eye power allows the owner to see the name and the time of death of any person.

Now, I have read up till Vol 3...where Light and L have met but is suspicious of each other true identity...and at this point, another person picked up another copy of death note and she has the eyes of the god of death. (Light didn't trade for eye power)

So if the person has the "eyes" he can realize the persons name by looking at them and "set" the time of death? o_o scarey

Why does Light wants to do this? Or does he seek revenge against criminals. How do they know that the other person got another note? How many notes are out there?

If the person possessed the eye power of the god of death, he can see the real name and the destined time of death of any human being. He set the time of death when writing the name down in Death Note.
There are a lot of rules in writing the names. I get confused after sometime haha

Light did that because he felt that since he was fated to gain this power of death, he should get rid of the evil in the world. His motive is right but twisted in a sense... imagine you killed the baddies but you became the baddie because you killed someone

His name in japanese means Moon but his name is written as Light. That's indeed his real name. However he had a screen name called Kira when he annouced his presence to the world.

The other person who picked up another Death Note tried to imitiate Kira and she did so by taking a TV studio as hostages and made them broadcasted a pre recorded voice recording from her. During that time, she proved the whole nation by killing a presenter from another stadio then a few policemen came to the building and were killed as well.
The real Kira obviously knew that there was another person but this time, that person owns the eye power because she was able to kill off the policemen straight without knowing their names.
L concluded that this wasn't done by Kira because of the way Kira usually handled things. The recording was done quite coarsely...

This is one heck of confusing manga to read... too much brain power used

We have TV on aaalll the time so everytime I try to sit down with a book I get distracted. -_-'

Tell me more about this manga when you read more chapters! I wanna know what happened. And who "narrates" the story? The detective?

it is focused more on Light's side. Afterall he was the one who picked up the Death Note and proved to his god of death, Ryuk, the interesting life of human. Ryuk had always thought that the human world was as "interesting" as the dead world
Ryuk had to follow Light around until Light is dead...... and he said that Light will neither go to Heaven or Hell.....I wonder what he meant by that...but it is definitely creepy to have a god of death, who knows exactly when you are going to die, sticking around you.

Ah My Goddess! Haha it was a pretty good anime wasn't it? I heard a lot of people discussing about the manga and anime.

Death god is scary looking lol. yeah I guess he suppose to be....
I do like Light He looks like a pretty brave guy too I mean he has to sort of "hang out" with this death god now. <_<; And poor detective L. I hope he won't get caught by Light o_o' (he can kill him right?) I think that detective L. will help Light at some point (esp. after new deathnote holders appear)

In Newtype magazine they have Sale ratings in Japan for manga - and Vol.2 of DeathNote is number 1.


Ah My Goddess! - did you watch it? I watched OVAs, read some manga. I did like the movie alot - its very pretty. I am not a big AMG fan, I do like the art part of it alot (its drawn really pretty), but the story is sometimes ... boring <_<'

It is hard to explain without you knowing the story but right now, L and Light are hanging out in the same university. A way of keeping Light under tab and befriending him on a false pretext. And on the other hand, L has invited Light to join in the investigation...it is a game to outwit each other.

Once Light knows about L's real name and L knows of Kira's real identity...it will be a hell lot interesting...

Oh and my manga is pretty flexible...it is not as hard as those TokyoPop ones...or it seems so
I wonder how come the scans are not as nice as the images I saw when it was scanned
confusing eh? I mean the scanned image will appear and I can rotate it but...once it was saved, it became bad quality. Maybe I should take the digicam pic of it
I will take more of it, when I am done with my exams

As for AMG, I have not seen a single episode of it...so I don't know what is that anime about.

Kira is the pseudo screen name Light uses. He used this name to declare to the whole world that he is going to change the world.

wow I didn't know there were couple of death gods - so I guess they are competing or smth o.o I wonder - if the girl has the eyes - that means she knows Light's name - that means that she can kill him at any time

Also, can Light see death god or does he just hear him? (when he was checking if his suit is not bugged I got a sence that he just hears his voice) o.o

Oh and "L" looks so wild XD lol. He looks much more like a crazy person with death note. Light is more calm looking... he looks more like a detective ^-^

Light proved his innocence by behaving normally like what a high schooler should be, concentrating on his revision (during that time, his university entrance exam is around the corner)
However, L continued to suspect him because Light appears to be toooo normal

Only the human owners of the Death Note can see/hear its original owner (Death God)
In another word, no one else in this whole world is able to see Ryuk except Light and perhaps other Death Gods.

The girl at the current moment has no idea of the identity of Kira/Light. Therefore even if she sees Light, she only sees his name and his time of death like a normal person. So why would she kill an innocent man?

Vol 4 is out today...I am gonna get it soon, otherwise it will be out of stock very fast. The 1st 3 volumes were reprinted within 3 months
