if you are wondering where i'm getting my information from my uncle is a nuclear engineer in the Plymouth Dockyard and my father has worked on powerplants since he was 17 years old. (wind farms are fine if they are stuff far out to sea, if they are to be used then why take over poor farmers land or national trust moors when for a small amount extra they can be built out in the Baltic or North seas. the small amount extra will be nothing compared to the ecomomic value of the land upon which they are built)
there :D any questions, feel free to ask away.

That sounds fair enough.

If the only problems with them are local things like sound, then why not just move them a long way away :???: ...

hmm...why have them at all if they are not the most effective way of producing power? it is incredibly expensive to put them out to sea, it costs VAST amounts of money to put these things out to sea, laying pipes and wires on the ocean bed is so so expensive. and where would you put them which would be financially feasible to put new pipes down? there is a drought from bristol across to kent and yet our government does not believe that piping water from the north to the midlands would be effective. why would they build windturbines far out in the depths only to have to pay such a huge amount to pipe the energy back to people?

A problem issue with nuclear power plants is that they're a great target for bombing. The US wants to bomb nuclear power plants in Iran - dumb idea. Bomb one of those and it'd be even worse than Chernobyl.

May's Survey is up!

Do you think that there is life "out there"? in the distant reaches of the galaxy and further?

I'm going to try and fix up the voting thing sometime so it resets - naybe I'll delete the whole poll and then make it again, instead of just updating the quesiton and answers. :-?

It says I have already voted but I haven't, could you not make a new thread each time instead of editing the existing one, then we get to keep the results of the other ones...

Make the current thread sticky and the rest can be unstickyfied when they finish and just left to disapear....

OR: Wait two years for Olympus! :D But wait, that's now!

The new features mean that we can constantly update poll details and reset votes... so does anyone have any ideas of what our new Poll of the Month should be? :D
