Postby shain87 » Wednesday 7 March 2007 6:13:32am

Goal: 1,000,000 signatures Feb 21st - July 21st.
Whichever country obtains 10,000 signatures gets to have the petition forwarded to said country's leaders.

In McGonagall's own words, He'll be famous - a legend - I wouldn't be surprised if today was known as Harry Potter day in future - there will be books written about Harry - every child in our world will know his name!

Let's try to make it come true, shall we? Sign away...I'll try to update this post every now and then, to keep track of the current tally.

Current Tally: 4347

I'm No.676 on the list . What about you?

Why should Harry Potter get a special day when Tolkien, Pratchett, CS Lewis etc don't....if this comes about we will soon have every day in the year full of pointless days to celebrate books...I mean, come on, yes they are good books but isn't having a special day taking it a little too far?

I agree, but I almost hope it makes it there in the US. I want to see the media's reaction to all of it! And then the Amish in my community will have a fit!
We have so many pointless holidays... Like Martin Luther King Jr. Day, he was a nice guy and all, but that's it really. He was just a nice guy. He wasn't even that great of a leader. (And plus, we don't even get a school holiday for that one  )

I'd recommend noone signs the petition untill Paul checks it out btw since you need to give your email and presumably other details and this is the only post the person has made so far.

Yeah Harry Potter is a brilliant thing but eventually, after the last book and movie come out the hoo-ha will die down.

Hello everyone! I'm sorry I took so long to reply to you posts.

Yes, I'm new to this board and just to address your concerns, Paul has apparently approved my post because I got his e-mail.

There is a Tolkien Day and a Dr.Seuss' Day. There's also a What If Cats and Dogs Had Opposable Thumbs Day and April Fools' Day. If you want to know how many more 'useless' holidays there are, just do a search on the Internet.

This is just my opinion: if there are such unofficial days for crazy things ( Tolkien and Dr.Seuss excluded) why not Harry Potter? These books have been a major factor (I'm not naive enough to say they were the only factor) in re-introducing reading to to a generation of children who are addicted to video games, television, the Internet. I know it's the same old argument used to defend the immense popularity of the series, but it is true, nevertheless.

I admit, there's a good chance the petition might not succeed. However, I don't see anything wrong in trying or just having fun. Nobody is forcing anybody to sign this. If you want to, good for you. If you don't want to, that's fine too.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I am not the organizer of this petition. All credit goes to Tommy. You can read his introduction here:

I'm just a fan of Harry's helping to send this out to as many Harry Potter fans as possible.
Also, HPANA has posted about the petition, which is how I came to know about it.

Cheers.

I don't know, you have a point. But I'm still not sure that I should encourage usless holidays...

Yeah I would prefer if holidays only came every once in a while, and that every day was not some obscure useless holiday. If everyday was a holiday then that word would mean nothing.

I dunno. Why not just have a "Literature Day"
And Paul, he's great but, he honestly can't decide what we do with our e-mail addresses. I don't really have a problem giving out mine. And you can just make a fake.
I'm not sure wether our not to trust him. Shain and the creator of this petition. How are we supposed to sign it anyways? :-?
It's a cool idea and all bit, I'm still not sure....
I wonder how many of these wierd "Day's" are on the same day and today?!

I think it would be kind of cool to have a Harry Potter Day.

Dr. Seuss is celebrated for a whole week at Fawkes' school.

Here's a whole list of weird holidays. Some of them are crazy!

.

An absolute lie. I have done no such thing, and only saw this thread today whilst looking through the newer posts on the forum. For spreading falsehood and for what is arguably spamming, you have been banned, shain87. I'm not risking you spreading lies about other members too.

I'd recomend people do NOT give their email addresses.

A very annoyed Paul.
